Nice, certainly, with lots of good mixed with some significant disappointments. Pleased if somewhat underwhelmed.
Good:
SC 5.4 with 450+hp/tq
6 spd tranny
Good, styling, especially the front
Big brembo brakes
Big wheels/tires
Improved seats (presumably?)
Thicker steering wheel
More readable gauges
Bad:
That damned old truck axle out back, major step backwards.
Iron block
Stripes a bit much (delete option?)
Rear "inspired" strakes a touch cheesy
Again, very nice if a bit underwhelming given early rumors, prior SVT Stangs and competition. A good, solid journeyman's effort, meeting most expectations, failing in a few major ones and exceeding none. A few narrow enthusiast audiences will be well placated, drag racers specifically, but it fails to rise fully to broader, world class levels that the previous SVTs seemed to be aspiring towards.

there's no IUP?
there's no IUP?

Here's a quote from the article:
The GT500 gives new meaning to the term "leather interior" as the dash, seat borders and door panels are completely wrapped in Black Ebony leather. Also wrapped in ebony leather are the shift lever, shift boot and parking-brake handle.
[/b][/quote]
I guess we'll have to see it - but that sounds truly awful!

Ok, I personally I think Ford has something up there sleeve. Yea the car looks good, but I dont see them "stealing the show with it" as said in an earlier post. Heck, the adrenalene looks better when they are side by side.

I personally don't care for the look of the Adrenaline as the grille just isn't working for me and the black trim is overboard IMHO, but it will be well received nontheless and will be a hit. The Sport Trac will no doubt pale in this respect in comparison to this car, bet the house on it.
The "sour grapes" response we have seen on here from the SVT faithful is not unexpected, but things are how they are and the Shelby car is the future. IMO it is a better car in every way, even if it is not perfect. The Shelby lettering out back is a bit big, the ducktail could be a little better integrated but likely not for a reasonable sum of money, and...........that is about it. The 03/04 Cobra was nice but this blows it's doors off in every respect and I would bet the largest portion of Ford enthusiasts agree.
When making changes to a car like this you cannot make everyone happy, and I am glad that this is not stopping Ford from making changes. We saw several disgruntles people when the new Mustang debuted arguing that the 99-04 cars looked "meaner" or better. Obviously they were in the minority and I have no doubt this car is going to be an even bigger hit than the 05 debut was.
It is unfortunate that Ford cannot please everyone, but that hardly means the car wont steal the show....quite the contrary. Wedensday night what should have been very obvious will have come to pass, Ford will have owned the NYIAS and this car will be the undisputed star.

I just don't see where, purely content-wise, they could justify asking more than the 2004.
One thing i think people are forgetting about this car is that the dealers will gouge you all over the place. I betting a close to 10K mark up over sticker.

the answer to your statement is in the big obnoxious lettters on the back.

That said unlike others the cast iron block bothers me not one bit so long as balance is good. And, the missing IRS wont bother me so longas the car delivers the handling goods. Although, this car could spank a Track Model 350Z in every aspect of handling and many on here would still complain simply because they used a live axle to do it.
Man! Some of you are never happy, are you? I admit there are a few things about the car I wish Ford would've reconsidered but come on! The car is gorgeous! It has a nuclear powerplant for an engine. And upgraded interior(for those who give a darn). And it's likely going to cost around the same as the old one?! My God! I'm thinking of finding a medical book on auto-surgery so I can remove my own kidney to buy one. You guys are whining about the minor details. :bang:
Not sure if this has been doctored, but it also looks from the below pic as though it has HIDs as well...

And how come this site doesn't take you anywhere?? >>

The GT had better track times that the Z, so the cobra will have no problem, no matter where your racing. And i agree the new live axle is great and i'm very glad they went with that instead of a quickly thrown together irs. but by the time this comes out they will probably have irs as an option.
Well, the cobra is my next car, like I have been planning. I dont know, I was just looking for more in the looks department. I guess pieces can be painted, and stripes can be removed, but that would stink after spending 40k on a car.
The front and back look great like I said, but is it really the big surprise that nobody is expecting? I mean seriously, the black rocker panel is NOT painted on the v6, painted on the gt, and is NOT painted on the cobra?
As for this being a concept, and some things not making it to production, I cant imagine them ADDING paint to a production model that wasnt on the concept
It is just my opinion, not worth anything, I am just a fan of the color-matched body pieces of previous cobras, that's all. That is what the forum is for, stating opinions about it, that is all im doing

Someone made a good point in another thread .... What if Shelby is just an option ? If you look at that icture from earlier today that had the red and blue mustang pictures in the background ... The Shelby we are now seeing was on that board minus all the striping .....

A truly modern muscle car
I have no compaints - just give me the 6 gears and the 500hp 5.4Litre V8!
Anyone who really buys this car won't have any complaints either when they see C6's and vipers fading away in the mirrors.
Go Ford!!!
Imagine the aftermarket performance parts to come out for this beast. I bet there will be quite a few scary gt500's out there in a couple years. Simple boltons produce so much more power with the bigger displacment and horsepower.
Maybe one day I could get this vanity plate after all - "600RWHP"

I love the SVT people that don't like the SHELBY lettering on tail. Would you prefer COBRA cut into the back bumper. Now that's ugly. THis is very sporty and classy looking. I dig it big time.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I think the recent Grand Am victories speak for themsleves.
I own the spruce log, and there is only 1 instance where it makes a difference, and that's on a large bump in the apex of a corner, I happen to have one on an exit ramp on the way to work.
In all other cases including agressively driving mountain switchbacks, you don't miss it or even realize your not driving an IRS equipped vehicle. The new 3 link setup transfers weight perfectly when you want it and expect it to.
Oh and Robert, the reason that link no longer works is because someone at Ford interactive "realized" or let that press kit fly in the wild for awhile. It now requires a login. That's why you see a session ID in the URL now, where as before it was a direct link to the press kit.
