Ford's webpage now has pictures of the SHELBY.
I just did the math... the old Cobra has 8.5 psi or so. The GT500 has 8.5 psi. The 5.4L is 17% bigger than the 4.6L. And 03/04 Cobras typically put down 365 rwhp completely bone stock right down to the paper filter. So if we got 17% more horsepower just from the displacement, that would be 428 rwhp ... which is 500 bhp.... and that's without a single mod. My Cobra made 415 rwhp with an air filter & cat-back. 17% more would be 487 rwhp...
Okay, I need to go take a cold shower...

Yeah, not cheap, but this basically has LESS added content over the current GT than did the previous Cobra. The motor essentially sounds like little more than a tall-block version of the 4.6 Cobra, little added cost there. Tranny's the same, brakes are slightly better, bodywork mods similar or less, wheels/tires about the same, suspension (non-IRS) decidedly less. I just don't see where, purely content-wise, they could justify asking more than the 2004.

I think they'll end up asking a couple grand more than 03/04. And they'll get it. I just hope I can find a dealer that will let me have one for MSRP within the first few months...

The twin screw blower is the best part, IMO ... right now you have a typical pullied 03/04 Cobra putting down maybe 460-470 rwhp and 480-500 rwtq. The Eaton just doesn't have much more in it ... but the twin screw does not suffer from that -- we'll have pullied GT500's running around the streets putting down 600 rwhp
. Talk about bang for the buck!Dave
[/b][/quote]
exacatly current 03/04 owners upgrade to a twin screw to get to 600hp(whipple/kenne bell) now we already have a 2.3L twin screw capable of 20+psi in a forged motor with 50more cubes!!! :worship: this car is and will be a beast
1. I like the front
2. Disappointed with the rear.
3. Duckktail looks tacked on. I like the one on that silver car better (pix a few pages back).
4. Wheels do nothing for me.
5. Think it would look awesome in white with Blue stripes.
Jury is still out for me. I was really excited yesterday when I saw the front shots but am "underwhelmed" today.
My wish: Something between this car and the GT with 5.4 naturally aspirated 375HP, functional shaker, and IRS (GT 350, Boss or Mach 1) for about $33K

I just noticed that too
Ok, I personally I think Ford has something up there sleeve. Yea the car looks good, but I dont see them "stealing the show with it" as said in an earlier post. Heck, the adrenalene looks better when they are side by side. The car looks cheap IMO. Body parts have to match, that is the style these days. That is the first thing that I noticed that i didnt like about the v6 was how that panel was black. This car has black all the way around it, and the mirrors arent painted. Not to mention all the stripes give it a rice appeal too me. Call my modern, but that is just what I see. There is something else going on..this car cant be the big surprise. I mean look at that front right shot, the car looks like everything was just tacked onto a gt with the big cobra badge, huge stripes on top, and stripes on the side!
Front and back look great too me if it was all body matching color. I'm sure that I will get flammed for this, but it is just my opinion. I plan on purchasing a cobra for my next car, but right now I am dissapointed.

I guess the concept of contrast escapes some people. :bang: It isnt like it is a way to cheapen the car, it would cost just as much or less to paint it all one color. I think it provides a nice contrast along with the grills. If you don't like the design fine but i cant see what everyone that posts negative comments were hoping for. I think it does an excellent job of bringing together the old look with a bit of modern thrown in. I'm not even going to start on the people who are wondering why they put stripes on the car
But i guess not everyone can like it.

The black rockers match the black chin spoiler, which matches the black rear air darn, which all were done like that to match the GT Supercar's look, which SVT engineered.... Maybe they were going for some family resemblence??????
I thought that was obvious.....
I thought that was obvious.....
k-dubb: I'm with you -- the black rocker panels are in very poor taste IMHO -- especially with the low-slung front bumper. However, it does make it look a little more "old-school" so that might be what Ford had in mind. But, it certainly is not my cup of tea.
Add to that the tacked-on Shelby on the rear and it brings it down a couple of notches in my book.
I am also not sure about the sharp angles of headlights. Looked great on the GT-R with the center dividers, but it just doesn't quite look right as-is. Maybe it will look better in person -- this jury's still out.
However, there is no denying that is a beast of a car. I just hope it stays under 3,700 lbs.
And, if they price that anywhere near $35k (which seems plausible to me, given the live rear axle), that is going to be an unbeatable car for the money.
As if the GTO wasn't selling slowly enough, GM is going to dread this day ever happened....

Why is everyone so hung up on the headlights? They are directly off the concept. And when the 05 production came out everyone moaned that the vertical bars were too straight compared to the concept...
They can't win around here... You guys aren't happy either way.

Like Hammy said, "The black rockers match the black chin spoiler." They look fine to me. The whole car looks great. Sure I would have liked to have seen side vents for the rear brakes, but cost was probably too prohibitive.
