Actually, that's what some are getting with their GTs.

What's the gas guzzler tax for those numbers?

Zach,

What's on the cover of that issue? I'd like to read it on the plane tonight or Sunday.

Talking

Love those numbers! but the horsepower is stated a little low. The car will have at least 500hp or else Shelby won't sign off on using his name for the car

Just calculated it based on 13/21 and it comes out to $2,600.

What are you talking about? They have stated from the very beginning 450+, not 500+.

I just calculated it based on info from this page:

http://www.liberalartsandcrafts.net/conten...uzzlertax.shtml

I come up with $3,000 but it does say the calc could be wrong by one tax bracket. So I guess it'll be somewhere in the range of $2,600-3,000.

I used the same page, what number did you get? I got 18.4, maybe my calculation was off a bit.

Just did the calculation again and got the same number.

Is this the equation you used?

(1/(.495/city MPG + .351/highway MPG))+.15

It has nothing to do with gas prices, it has been around since the 70's. It is a measure the government started using to deter the production and purchase of cars that have low gas mileage. Just another measure to encourage the use of fuel efficient cars and lessen our dependence on overseas oil.
