well the Gt-500 is a good price for wat it is, but isnt the corvette a REALLY big deal? u can get one probably in low 60's if its not fully loaded, and with deals and haggling, i mean, when i think if corvette, i dont put it in the same class as a mustang, the corvette seems more like a viper to me, the stang is more styling towards muscle, the vette seems more aerodynamic and such

True. The Corvette has always been the pinnacle of American sports cars--it's really the only one. What the Corvette and Mustang share is being he icons of performance and longevity in their respective strata. I have no doubt that the Corvette will be the better performer, but the Shelby, or any Mustang for that matter, will always be the best performance buy for the buck.

Price aside, buy a Lamborghini Murcielago. It will dominate the GTs. Park a Lambo next to a GT, and the the GT is virtually ignored.
Yeah....Im gonna have to disagree w/ that. a GT ignored? The GT has heritage over the Lambo.

It should be a comparison of a GT500 to the regular Vette. Then compare the z06 to a viper. Then a Ford GT to a High end sports car (Porshe, Ferarri, Lambo, Etc...)
I agree, its the old argument of comparing cars that have such diff's in price, its not fair. The Z06 should be up against the Viper. The Shelby vs the regular Vette, then you have cars that are in a similar price range together. But, of course, the car mags and a lot of people want to compare the Z06 with the Shelby, which is fine, but not fair.

The Z06 will offer exotic car performance at fraction of the price, so if you can afford a Ferrari 575M Maranello, then the Z06 is a tremendous bargin. For those of us without Bill Gates' money, the GT500 offers outstanding bang for the buck.

The car won't be cheap but it will offer those of us who work for a living a chance to own a very fast car for the average price of an SUV.

For me personally, I'll take the GT500 first and foremost because I love Mustangs, period!!

Z06 or Shelby, its an apples to meat loaf comparison. Now if you said Z06 to GT, then that'd be real tough.

The Z06 is the best darn performance deal on the planet, but I'm not impressed with its looks. Its kinda homely in my opinion and seems like a kinda funky modern interpetation of the Opel GT, but the dollar to perf ratio more than makes up for its lack of visual appeal.

The Shelby like the mustang in general is in a class by itself. So its a no brainer there. Then again even if GM had something to muster against it, I would still take the Shelby.

There was a comparo article in "Automobile" with these two and an SLR Mercedes ....the Lambo was slower than the GT. SORRY!!

Back on topic....$900 worth of CAI,Predator tune and pulleys would make a very even race with a z06. Corners?Probably all about tires and drivers. You'll still have $20k left over for the kid's college fund with the Shelby .

I guess that is GM's version of "retro"

Seriously, the Z06 is a stellar performance car that offers a previously unheard level of performance in a street car, basically a street legal race car. Price aside, I'd still be buying the Shelby, I simply love the car!!!

yeah i agree, last time i checked the GT beat the lambo and w/o the markup is 140k cheaper. but the markup on the GT is outrageous. i hope it doesnt kill the gt like the T-bird.

Yopu have to factor dealer markup
Look at what happened to the Stang GTs and the GTs....
Some folks paying way over MSRP.
Chevy dealers invented adjsuted market value and it shows.
One around here wants $50k for a 05 Silverado SS....
the Z06 won't be found for less than $75K, just ask your dealer...
They will say $65-75K, bu then ask how much they adding on top of that for AMV....
Oh and anyone else seen those silverado RS/S? They ugly crap, and at $35K msrp....
lol
pretty funny joke.
Can't wait for the Adrenaline, $32k msrp, 390 horse SUV and small pick-up bed...
Those are gunna be hot sellers. Dad gets his horsepower, mom gets the SUV, kids get a car they can brag about being dropped of at school in.
I know my folks are lookin into them. We on a list at our local SVT dealer already. I say we since I have bought 5 cars there so they know me and have cut me deals on a few car, including my 03 Cobra and 05 Stang GT.
Of course the cobra was left over stock....

Wait a year and you should be able to pick one up at or below MSRP.

None at all. I had the opportunity to sell it almost $3k above the average, mainly due to low mileage and its showroom condition.

My favorite Mustang design is the 1968's. The Bullitt is a nice car but was sort of a substitute with features supplementing and simulating the original. The new design is more up to par to the classic, only better and without any rust. With the exception of the DHG color and the performance of the Cobra, my '06 GT will have everything I've was hoping to have in a Mustang. I can live with black and the 300 hp. If need be, it will not be difficult or expensive to increase its performance by 10%.
Count on that Slap on a Borla and it'll sound like you have 50% more power

Guys, I have to get in on this...

Ford market research has shown that potential buyers for the Cobra most often compared it to the corvette. I think Ford has decided that due to the comparison being done in the "buyers" eyes, the performance and value should be on par with it's primary competitor in the marketplace.

In this case, the Shelby is so much more than the "stock" vette that GM knew they would have to one up it. The only problem is they have a great vehicle, that has incredible performance, but is very expensive to the average buyer, and lacks the one thing the mustang has always had..............a back seat. Which is a huge selling point for the pony!

I would take the Shelby...no matter the cost.

However, if money were no object, I would have another ford product...

Aston Martin Vanquish.

later Y'all

Price aside, the Z06 will dominate. It is everything we wish the GT500 was. Light weight, cutting edge technology (magnesium/aluminum/carbon fiber), basically sex on wheels.
Speak for yourself, I say the Shelby is what it is and I don't think I would wish for more.

Now the Z06 is what I wish a Ford GT was, the best darn performance deal on the planet bar none, but given the situation unforntunatley not

on a tangent, I hear GM is thumping its chest about the Blue Devil aka 600 HP carbon fiber skinned Z06 and possibly coming to market at 100k

I don't think the Z06 will turn heads like the Shelby will. At least not around my stomping grounds (Dallas) where it seems like every 3rd car is a Vette. Darned near every Vette is worth a look on the roads as will be the Z06, but the Shelby is going to yank some necks out of their sockets, you can bet on that If you like to drive around seeing everyone stare and mouth "holy s***" through their car window then the Shelby is the car for you
