From what I have read, the car tends to run lean with a new CAI. C & L says their CAI without a tune will lean out a GTs A/F ratio to 14 to 1. I read a K & N leaned out about .5 without a tune. I guess the question is, what is a safe A/F ratio and what is marketing? C & L wants you to get a tune so they can advertise 27+ HP.
Right, that is the quesiton. So will running a CAI without a tune (regardless of advertising) be a safe A/F mixture? Will it damage the car? Or is it just not a good thing? Because $400 for a tuner just to adjust A/F ratio hardly seems worth the whole rig

Ya gotta keep in mind you're getting so much more with that tuner though than just being able to adjust the A/F ratio. And yeah, thats why Ive been saying a CAI that says it doesnt require a tune isnt worth it. You're either not seeing any real gains, or you're running your car really lean. If a CAI is really better.. its flowing more air obviously. Therefore, the car should run lean. Right?

Somebody called FRPP about the GT CAI, FRPP said a tune is not required. I assume this applies to the V6. I know this sounds dumb, but I like the idea of not tuning the car. FRPP products should not void or complicate the warranty. Most 87 octane tunes do little for peak HP, Superchips only claims 5 HP. If I can get 7-8 HP from a CAI without a tune, I would be happy. I'm hoping 15 HP total for a CAI and muffler from FRPP.
