I just got my 05 V6 about two weeks ago. I was looking at getting a CAI and a new, throatier muffler. But I was wondering what people base their decision on. How do you know this product is better than that one?

I was looking at a MMR CAI and a Ford Racing/Borla muffler. But I hear good things about the AEM CAI and the Magnaflow mufffler. I search through various message boards like this one and, generally speaking, people give rave reviews to the product they bought. But what made you buy that brand over another?

So how do i know which to buy?!?!?!

As you may or may not be able to tell, I'm afraid I'll buy one then immediately regret not going with a different manufacteurer.

In my case, I did a lot of research, and settled on the AEM for three reasons:
1) company rep
2) pricing
3) looks

There are other CAI's out there that will do just as well as the AEM, but to my eye and wallet the AEM was the best choice for me.

For a muffler I'm currently running a GT takeoff, and that was based solely on the fact I got one more or less "free" with a GT bumper package, and it sounds better than the stock V6 muffler. If I were buying one, the Borla would be at the top of the list.

I am in the same boat as you, but the main thing I am looking for in a CAI is plastic. It is the best material for tubing, it's much cooler, even if it may not be the "coolest" looking. There isnt much science to it so just get one you may feel comfortable in terms of company reputaion, and price.
For a muffler a GT takeoff will be the cheapest you can get to get a better sound. They run at about 45-65 bucks new, or maybe you can even get lucky and get a free or a really cheap used one.

Good luck in you research, I'm still working on it as well.

The more I think about it, it probably really doesn't matter what CAI anyone get. They all seem to promise/gurantee the same level of gains.

The muffler, however, is a whole other issue. Unless you hear one live, it's a gamble.

Thank god for ebay though.

So far yes.. wait for C&L and JLT.. Im preaching their gospel so I hope they dont fail me. They were showing HUGE gains over all other brands on the GTs.

Do you happen to have a hunch of how long I'll have to wait?

I just went on their sites and was looking at their CAIs for the GT and they look really nice. If the V6 version looks like that, I'll wait.

My "sources" have told me the C&L went into production not that long ago.. it should be out within the next month or so at the latest. Jay (from JLT) has been pushing back the JLT since last March, and its taken a lot longer this summer due to the problems he had with the GT. I believe at one point he was having trouble finding a test car as well. I can only hope its out within the next month or so as well, but I have a feeling that its going to take a bit longer. Im getting restless... but sometimes you have to wait for the best. Im gonna be sad if it doesnt come around until near Christmas time =(

That's REALLY exciting about the C&L and JLT! Can't wait to see what sort of gains they post.

$440 for the Magnaflow, my hubby installed them. Not a wise move, it was very hard work. Lots of cussing and bloody hands. Then I paid $65 to ge the pipes leveled and everything checked out at a muffler shop.
