Whose Tune Are You Using?

Bamachips with upcoming dyno/air fuel check by Mike@Powerhouse Automotive

I have 91 octane tunes as follows: Tunable Induction, Modular Depot, and Bama: Performance and Race. All the first two tunes seem to do is allow the car to run with the larger diameter MAF tube of the CAI. There seems to be little attempt to improve part throttle performance. Unless you are at full throttle they feel almost the same as stock. The Bama Perf tune is great and noticeably more responsive but the race tune makes the car feel 500 lbs. lighter. It responds to the slightest throttle pressure. I'd be curious to know what Doug does to achieve this. It isn't simply a matter of opening the throttles faster because with the other tunes if I purposely exagerrate the throttle movement, jabbing it twice as fast and far as I normally would the car still doesn't does accellerate as quickly as with the race tune.

Altitude and temperture is all changed by the MAF sensor on these cars, this isn't a speed density system here guys. The best thing I would say about any tune is to ensure it is a custom tune and not the SCT basefile. The SCT basefiles are bad about pinging with the 91/93 octane settings as well as not improving the throttle responce as much as it can be. My tunes are developed only after dynotuning the car with the mods stated and then making adjustments from there. Also I always offer that if you goto the dyno and send me the sheets afterwards, in RPM over HP/TQ/AF not over MPH, then I can make the changes and update your tunes from there.
The best thing I can recommend is get your tune from an experienced CUSTOM tuning SCT dealer, canned tunes aren't recommended.
and of Course, Bamachips Rules!! ahahhahaaaaa

You can't live in Alabama and not have Bamachips tunes. That would just be wrong! Doug is a great guy, I went to the dyno and had him install my JLT and SCT tunes. Like many, many others, I am in love with the 93 race tune. I've had it loaded for about three months straight now!

Brent's 93 tune here... Debating cams... I'd go to Hutters [local] to check the tune after that. With just intake/exhaust mods from Brent, I'm not too concerned about tweaking too much more out of it.

Doug said it very well. I wasn't speaking in specific with the mustangs about altitude, etc. I was speaking generally about variables. Basically here is what should be summed up:
If you can, get your car tuned by an experienced SCT custom tuning dealer locally. You can buy a canned tune as a base file, and SOMETIMES they're right on the money, DEPENDING ON WHO YOU BUY FROM.
Like I've always said before... Bama, Brenspeed, and JDM is all I would trust (other than us!!!)
Always have your AFR monitored and HP/Torque checked no matter WHO tunes your vehicle. At VERY LEAST use a wideband to monitor it. You can use the end user adjustment to help your problem smooth out until it can be retuned.

The only thing I really need a dyno for is to fine-tune the air transfer function to dial in the correct AFR. The other stuff I can tweak in the comfort of my own time, and trial/error. In the meantime, I am using a Foxtrot Mike Charlie custom calibration.

Once a Naturally Aspirated engine reaches 30-32 degrees of timing ? it's reached it's full power potential..Therefore with just a few mods such as a cold air intake and performance tune ? there's nothing to be gained by tweaking Doug's tunes nor anyone else's for that matter, in which Btw was straight from the horse's mouth, figuratively speaking..

Too many opinions on one subject. Every car is different, even the same model/displacement cars. I'm not even going to get into it. I'll just put out what numbers we can when a car shows up here. I'm happy with that!
