Patience, it's really easy to do if you can get your rear up in the air. it's just a couple more bolts, for the cat-back pipe, than this axle-back how to article.

Patience,
My cat backs are halfway acrossed the country. Got the car up on ramps and have looked underneath. Not sure why they call them cat back since they bolt onto the back end of the H-pipe. I know thats the rear end of the cat pipe which is midcar. Looks like a couple of clamps at that point and it all comes out. Not sure how easy it is to get it over the differential without letting the rear end hand down but I guess I will find out this weekend. Anyone else out there installed the Borla cat back system on there driveway that can give Patience and I some pointers????

I hope that they are not too loud! I'm an old guy and don't need too much attention~
BTW UPS isn't delivering my axle backs until Monday so I was bummed out all day!

Hi All,
I started this thread some weeks ago because I could not find the Borla axle back mufflers. I had a lot of good tips about where to look but when I would call they were sold out and on backorder.
Many thanks to PATIENCE for letting me know about the cat back systems at AJUSA. I ordered the last kit they had and received it Thursday. I know I said earlier that I would install after work on Sat. but I couldn't wait. Finished the install about 9 pm last nite in the driveway.
If I had to do it again I would go to a muffler shop and have it done. The trick to an easy install is getting the car up on a lift with the axle hanging down so you can remove the stock pipes easily. Had my car's rearend up as high as possible on jack stands with the rearend hanging down. All stock clamps came off easily as did the stock mufflers. Removing the pipes over the rear axle is where the problem starts. :bang: I was barely able to get the pass. pipe out. But the drivers side pipe would not come out because the end at the H pipe would hit the ground and not let it rotate enough to come out.
Finally I had to unbolt the driveshaft at the rearend and let it hang down and the pipe came out.
The Borla kit installed in about 30 mins. with no issues at all.
NOW FOR MY IMPRESSION!!!!!!!
At start up the car is MUCH LOUDER and MEANER sounding! :worship: A real head turner!
Under normal acceleration the car sounds more like my 70 Mach 1 with its Flowmasters. Alot more like the muscle cars of old.
And the answer about the dreaded drone at highway speeds. I drove into work on the highway this morning varying my speed form 60 to 75 mph and there is NO drone.
I would say it is very much like the stock mufflers.
Now for the best part and that is at WOT. WHAHOOO!!! She is LOUD and MEAN!!! You are very much in control of what the car sounds like just using your right foot. I am thrilled with the outcome. Dan and Boomer's sound clips did it for me. Thanks GUYS!!

Glad to see we could help....I think the clips have turned a bunch of people on to it. Its not for everyone, but love the sound....
You're right it goes through a range of volumes and tones....
Dan I mentioned...its the best mod on our 05s by far...
But you won't be sneaking up on anytime soon

Guys, how do you think this setup will sound with an Off Road X-pipe? I like the sound of my car as is, but it doesn't have a throaty sound with the stock mufflers. I want a little deeper sound and a nice rumble at idle. I know I will still retain some raspiness because of the X-pipe, but I am hoping the Borlas will remove that a bit.

Boomer,
You are correct. No sneaking around with this setup, that's for sure.

Thanks again for the clips that steered me in the right direction.
Jason,
I still have the stock H pipe and am not considering an X pipe for I know it will give me a raspy note. I had a 96 Cobra that I put Flows on 1st and was thrilled with the sound. Later I put on a Bassani catted X pipe and it gave it the raspy sound you are speaking of. I personally don't want that. These Borla's are awesome and I imagine when they break in I will be more impressed.
Scott :worship:
let me just say again--the catback borla set up is absolutely awesome--a co-worker of mine has an 05' vette and was mentioning even with his axleback exhaust package from Corsa, that my stock GT had a better sound---wait til' he gets a load of the Borla's tomorrow---i am definitely going with an SCT tune and CAI in the near future----as well as charge motion plates----awaiting my check from my Drivers Edge rewards---giddy up!
