TUNES- Race, Torque, & Performance

I've decided to go with a "tune". Now the second biggest dilemma, which ones...? I have 87, 89, 91, and 93 octane gas available in my area. What's the difference between torque, race, and performance tunes. I've read this forum until my eyes bleed and I am still uncertain. Please be as specific and detailed as you can... THANKS!!!

I have a 93 Torque Tune from Doug at Bamachips to go with my C&L racer. It was a big change from stock could really feel it kick around town The improved throttle was great as well, overall I'm really happy with it and havent tried any other types of tune (performance/race).

I got all three from BamaChips. I got the 87 performance, 93 Torque and 93 Race. If you buy an Xcal2 from Doug he gives you 3 tunes anyway. And he gives you free tunes for most mild mods.

A lot of people Ive talked to just think the tunes are more 'in your head' than anything else.

I just picked up CAI/Tuner from Brent at Brenspeed and its awesome so far!

Are you happy with those three tunes? Have you tried all three? Thanks

Yes i have tried them all. They are all great. I got the 87 Performance just in case the gas prices went crazy again. I probably use the 93 Torque the most. But the race tune, omg. It is awesome.

Just curious if the race tune is so "awesome" why do you run the tq. tune over it? (Not trying to be a ****)

Well the torque tune does give you more torque down low which is what the 4.6 lacks. And since I do most of my driving in the city it helps. I switch them up from time to time though.

TacoBill is using the 91 race tune from Doug... He swears by it. Says that the torque tune starts loosing steam in the high RPMs but the race tune pulls hard from start to finish... Based on the ride he took me on you are gonna LOVE that tune! I would get the 93 race, 93 performance and an 87 tune myself. The 87 I would use for trips and such.

I like the 91 the best crisper shifts,,, but 91 octanes hard to fine in my area right now! East central Illinois, anybody else having trouble finding 91 octane??....

I use the 93 Race Tune all the time. Once I tried it...the other tunes seemed 'mild'. Go with the highest octane gas you have in your area. No sense in spending money on mods etc to make your car go faster only to scrimp on the gas.
Get all the tunes in the highest octane. JMO

I ran the 93 tune first for two months ..Im not trying to save a buck! all tunes have different carraristics..91 still had crisper shifts than the 93..

Sorry, I’m not trying to hijack this thread, but do these various tunes cure the cars complete lack of power from idle to around 2k? If it weren’t for that these cars would be darn near perfect.

When I got my Tunable Induction CAI I started with the supplied SCT tune and shortly thereafter got "custom" tune from Modular Depot. During normal driving I could tell no difference between either of these and the stock tune. I then got the Bamachips Performance tune which completely changed the feel of the car. Throttle response was much better. Finally I got the Race tune that improved response even more, especially at part throttle. Anyone who has never driven a Mustang with one of these tunes has no idea what they are missing. With the as-delivered stock tune, and the others I mentioned, it does not feel like a "fast car." With the Bamatunes it does. I don't know how much difference there would be at full throttle on a dyno, but for day to day driving the different is huge. I honestly would not own this car if I had to drive it with the stock tune. The highest octane I can readily get is 91 so that is what I tuned for.

I have Doug's 93 race, 93 performance, and 93 torque tunes. I've used the torque and race tunes, but have not used the performance tune yet. The torque tune has great bottom end power, but starts falling off around 3-4K. The race tune pulls hard all the way through and has great throtttle response...that is the tune that I am using right now. Doug is also a great guy and will work with you to get your tunes right.

i've got the 93 torque, perf, and race as well. i run the torque as my daily driver. first off all i have to say is definitely go for all 93. or if you must have an 87, then in my opinion, i'd delete the performance from your list.

the torque has a lot more grunt at the bottom which is where i like to have most of it b/c thats where i spend most of my driving. it does fall off a slight bit at the top.

ok, now the performance tune. it definitely doesn't have the grunt at the bottom that the torque tune does. but it does have a sweet kick higher up in the revs.

and best of all, the race tune. in my opinion it feels like it has a slight bit more of torque at the bottom than the torque tune, and it has all that the perforamce has at the higher rpm. its like a combo of both. its definitely the best tune but i don't run it all the time so i don't get my blood boiling to the point of a speeding ticket.. lol.. so in conclusion, get a 93 RACE Tune b/c its a MUST. 2nd, get a 93 torque. than get whatever you want for the 3rd. you'll be happy!

Go with the highest octane available in your area. I've tried all of Doug's tunes and I'm sold on the 91 race I that's the only tune I run after trying them all out. The other tunes are great to but they don't compare to the 91 race tune.
