Tremendous fuel leak

About 5 months ago I had a Auto Meter fuel pressure gauge installed on my wife's GT/CS. The install was done at a local shop. She was driving down the highway with the top down and started to smell fuel. When she got off the high way the smell was very bad and she drove the mile to our house. Long story short she blew a full tank to the top of the engine in 30 miles. I have know idea how she made it home alive.

I found the leak between the fuel rail and the Metco adapter. When I pulled the adapter I found a black O-ring that looked like it was from a cheap O-ring kit, the O-ring was not nicked or damaged but looked like it shrunk. The shop don't know nothing about nothing, "They installed what they got". Metco people were great and sent me OEM blue fuel O-rings.

Has anyone ever seen Black O-rings rated for fuel?

I'm really pissed, but want my facts straight before unloading...

I had one of those once, and upon removing it the o-ring was shredded. this was a Metco piece. About a year later after that (approx 6 months ago) Brenspeed installed a Steeda adaptor piece (just like the Metco) and its on my car currently. Makes me want to pull it off and check it out....

Thank God your wife is OK. That could have been a bad, bad situation.

Ok.. Still pissed but it's not Metco or the installer. I did the diaphragm check on the FRPT vacuum line side and it passed. Got all new OEM Orings, and installed, leaking less but still a huge leak. Turns out the FRPT is constructed in two pieces. The pieces are fit together from the bottom, then resin is poured in around the seam. A hair line crack formed all most all the way around the center of the resin. The Orings could hold all they wanted the fuel just shot out on the other side.

Catastrophic failure of a part while driving that pours fuel on top of your engine... not good...
