This was JR Granatelli's response to my email and offer to come in and test on behalf of all of you:
"Well 2 different guys came by the shop today and both tested. 1 '05 and 1 '06. The '05 made 9hp and 18ft/lbs and the '06 made 11hp and 21ft/lbs. Niether mentioned TheMustangSource and both paid $499.00 each. This included the install and they paid $75.00 each for the dyno on top of that.

Needless to say we know what kind of power they make...I am am happy to extent the offer. 5hp and 5ft/lbs is not a problem. Anyone that makes less is doing something wrong.
"

He is going out of town, so I will schedule an appointment in about a week or so. I will give you all, and maybe a couple other forums a detailed, unbiased response to the gains achieved with the TB.

I wonder if his going out of town had anything to do with you coming to his shop?

If anyone interested, mine is new and for sale (only out of it's package to take pic), $340 shipped to your door in the U.S. Instructions & spring tool incl. PM me.
TKs,
Paul

P.S. Also have a TB spacer for $55 shipped U.S.
I have a question for you and all here. Mine is same as yours....I notice that it overtravels W/O throttle. I wonder if there should be a stop (like the one for idle air) to keep the blades straight with the airflow or if the throttle motor will know its position. Can you see if yours does it? I can post a pic later if it's needed.

I still cant understand why folks
waste their money on a usless product.

Just my $.02 worth

Those selling TB's, go to ebay. For some
reason they seem to sell for a decent amount
over there.

Honestly, I have never heard of Lightning Force Performance. I was wondering what LFP stood for.

I have a question about the aftermarket TB - if the "gearing" of the throttle actuator motor and butterflies is what improves throttle response, can't the aftermarket just make new gears for the factory TB to get the same thing?

Should be able to. But why haven't they?

I'd imagine it has to do with markup. It would probably cost less than 5 bucks to make those little plastic pieces, so even with a 100% markup, they would only be making 5 bucks per customer.
Or, they could make an all new throttle body that costs them $300 to make, and charge 400 (or more) for it and make 100 dollars per customer. So they would have to assume 20 times more people are going to buy the little gears than those that are going to buy the TB, just to break even and profit the same amount of money.

Once you see the plastic gears, you'll see they look very cheap. Now if someone made some metal after market gears, and charged less than 50 bucks for them, that might be worth it.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. That does make sense though

I don't believe the gears in the throttle body have anything to do with throttle response. It's all in the tune, IMO. That's not to say that as those plastic gears wear, you wouldn't have a throttle response problem though.

Red face

Can anyone tell me if their brass throttle plates overtravel? Mine is not on the car yet..(hahaha, I wonder why? ahaha) and as I ramp it up to full throttle (in my hands zoom zoom) it is able to overtravel past full open to a bit closed. I think there should be a + stop there or is one to assume the TPS will magically know when it begins to impead the flow... and bring it back towards the closed position.

I emailed granatelli about taking him up on his offer sometime this week. i will provide a detailed writeup of my experience if/when the challenge goes down.

I proposed that the bare minimum for him to win the challenge is to achieve 5rwhp/5rwtq improvement with a simple bolt on. I feel the JLT intake should clear any and all reservations about whether the air is able to get to the TB!

...awaiting updates

!!! Update !!! please!!!

You guys crack me up. I said I had to go out of town. I am checking this email from the Dallas airport (2 am PST) I get home tonight and have meetings with magazine people Wednesday and Thursday. So feel free to schedule an appointment for Friday or anytime next week. The idea here is to do something nice for you guys and prove the merits of the product. Our gears are made of oil impregnated bronze. The stock t-body is undersized. We don’t make the power because of the gear change the power comes from the increase in blade diameter.

Carolina Performance built a 3v Blown 05 mustang. The initial run was 480 RWHP after swapping out the OEM t/b to ours and no other changes HP jumped up to 535 RWHP. They were happy and surprised by the changes the t/b made on a forced induction car. Final HP made after tuning was 590RWHP. This car is equipped with our GMS Throttle Body and our GMS 3 inch exhaust system.

While I agree these numbers are staggering I am reporting what I was told. This is an excellent example of what the T-body can do when combined with a blower. Again this car is not the exception it is the rule. It only seems natural that a supercharged car would benefit more so then a N/A

I am not looking to get slammed. Like I said from day one I am trying to help. Play nice and you will be surprised what we are willing to do.

Sounds like next week there will be a group "buy" in the works! I have been listening and watching this thread long enough. It is time to saddle up and ride off into the sunset.
