All,

I was running some fog lights and have 2 questions:

I was under the drivers side dash and I saw a fuel reset button. What is it for? Googled it and found a bunch of hits on how to replace it, but doesn't say what it does? Is this a fuel cutoff switch in case the car flips and that button resets the switch?

and what is that silver foil panel right next to the master cylinder. Under the dash it's got a foam cutout?

Thanx in advance..

Fuel Cutoff switch is in case of impact the fuel is cutoff. Since the car has an electric fuel pump fuel would continue to be pumped unless the key were shut off. The reset is incae the switch is thrown is can be reset if there are no problem found in the car.

Thanx for the replies. I thought that's what it was but wasn't sure...

Does anyone know what that aluminum foil stuff is on the firewall under the master cylinder?

thanx

I am guessing but I would say the foil is a heat tape. In case lets say the master cylinder leaks out a little fluid and it drops on hmm the cruise control switch and wants to start a fire even when the vehicle isnt running. The tape might keep the heat and fluid out. Just a thought. perhaps they smartened up after all the recent fires.

Unfortunately I found out how that works a couple of weeks ago in my 2002 Moutaineer. When I tried to move it after the girl ran the stop sign in front of me and I hit her. I coludn't get the car to start. I knew that I had seen something about it but I wasn't thinking clearly and couldn't remember what it was. It's a good thing, the tie rod was pretty bent and it wouldn't have gone straight anyway.

My old Pinto was a blast. Steering was unresponsive - move the wheel and about 15 seconds later, the nose would move.
