Ok, I have had an 440RWHP LS1 camaro and it was pretty simple to work on and to have tuned. I now have a 2005 auto/GT and from what I've read it's a pain due to the on board computer system. I read a post that someone with the same car setup removed the carbon filter(??) and just a drop in filter made some pony power!? I just ordered the Eleanor body kit so my $$$ is tight now, but I was looking for so more ponies out of my GT for now. I was going to locate the carbon filter and add a drop in K&N filter and run 93 fuel will I need my computer retuned? I live in Tampa and their is a speed called Ramsey that has about a 6sec turbo gt so I'm sure they can tune but for now if I run 93 for fuel will I be ok? also i'm not sure where the carbon filter is located, Thanks Dan

Ok, here's my opinion. Removing the carbon trap filter (if your car is even equipped with one - Ford apparently quit installing them in later builds) and adding a K&N type filter in the stock air box, is not going to give you much, if anything.

Save your money up, about $700, and get yourself a cold air intake and tuning device.

I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND the C&L CAI and SCT2 tuning device. I can also HIGHLY RECOMMEND Doug at BamaChips for your SCT2 tunes. He also sells the C&L CAI. The difference will be like night and day. You won't regret it.

I agree! You will see a pretty sizeable gain in power with the Cold-Air Intake and Tuner. Also, the tuner will be necessary later on down the road for just about everything you may want to do to the car, so making it one of your first mods is a very good move to make. Given the complexity of Ford's PCM/ECM, I dare say the tuner is probably the single most important modification and tool.

I would suggest Lidio at Alternative Auto if you have the automatic.

I agree with the other guys. Save for a bit and get a C&L or a K&N intake with a SCT xcal 2. I have a K&N and even though it does not require a tune I got the SCT. With either intake and the SCT you will get gains in the 20 HP range, at least.
