Saleen Superchargers vs. Whipple vs. Vortech

Have been looking into putting a blower on my car. It seems as if Vortechs have fallen out of favor for the S197 cars compared to the Whipple/Ford Racing superchargers, and even the Saleen unit.

Is there any bennefit of using one of these over the other? JDM seems to have a pretty potent Saleen kit, but the Whipple seems to be the unit of choice for these cars. Vortechs were always the go-to unit it seemed like for years, but not so much for the new cars. Is there a reason why?

Anyone who has any of the units, feel free to chime in with your experiences, numbers, pitfalls, pros/cons, etc.

Thanks!

I know how you feel...I too am looking at a SC. Right now I see a Whipple in my near future. Everything I have seen pulls me that direction...

If I had to do it over again, I'd buy a TurboHP single turbo kit.

You cant go wrong with a whipple or kenne bell. I would put Saleen as a not too distant third choice compared to those two. Basicly Im in favor of any twin screw.

I found a Saleen for a decent price and like the power it has.

Pros
Power
Easy to install
upgradeable
Good look under the hood (IMO)
Good price

Cons
The directions su*k
Saleen didn't include a special Tool (Alt. pulley removeal tool)

If you want to go with a s/c, go either, KB, Whipple, or Saleen.

Yeah because Vortechs, Paxtons, and Prochargers all suck......... (?)

I don't understand statements such as this. If you're going to give exclusively just opinions and no facts behind them, then atleast state its just opinion.

AWESOMO 4000 if you search, you'll find 100s of threads regarding the differences in supercharger function, kits, etc. It all comes down to what you want to do with the car. Regarding your question about why alot of people go with a TS for these newer cars, I would think it has alot to do with the extra weight of the car plus just the fact that there are more TS kits available for these than previous years. Does this mean centri blowers are no good? No. They just serve a different purpose, that's all. Call Brenspeed, JPC, PSI, or JMS if you want more detail regarding the centri kits as an option.

Have had the Saleen for about 1 1/2 years. IMO if you go with a Saleen, get a JDM tune!!!!!!

i would hardly say the Vortech's are out of favor. My kit is awesome. I have had it on the car for over 15K miles, drive the car daily and have no issues whatsoever. The kit is great

1. With twin screws you get instant responce, and one hell of a torque curve.

2. I was buzzing good last night when I posted that.

Hey Darrell, you dyno your car yet? I'm guessing ~400 to the tires.

Maybe at Brenspeed's dyno day??

If you're really considering a centri you might as well go turbo.

Turbos are more efficient that superchargers. Like I said above, if I had the chance to do it over, I would have bought a TurboHorsepower Single kit. I just saw a dyno of the "basic" kit and it put down 450ish whp on 6lbs. I really like my Vortech though, so I should be happy

How easy is that basic turbo kit to install? And how much does it cost? How hard is it to uninstall?

I eventually want to get a fully built engine with twin turbos, but that tallies up to about $15k including labor (I'm not smart enough or equipped enough to do that on my own). I was thinking about just getting a decent supercharger for $4-6k and installing it myself, just to have something to play with for a few years until I can afford the twin turbo...

Are superchargers hard to uninstall? Do you make alot of damage installing them? (cutting stock pipes, hoses, etc, in a way that cannot easily be returned to stock)

Woah where did you see that? I've got an upgraded single kit from them going into my car right now.
