I have one of the original C&L trueflow kits, and my filter is getting really dirty. My guess is it can be cleaned like some of the K&N filters, but I was wondering where you might buy a replacement? There's no manufacturer information on the C&L website nor on the filter itself.

Thanks.

Good question - I was wondering if there is any kinda standard 'after 3000 miles clean your filter' thing out there with those in 'the know' - this is my first time with a car with an intake like this......

Purchase the K&N filter recharge kit and follow the included instructions.
You'll need 12 -24 hours to dry the filter after washing so plan ahead.
I just did mine last week. Use very little oil!!!

It's easy to add more if it's not enough but it's very difficult to remove if you put too much.

Ha! I have 21K after a year of ownership (although it's now a weekend or after work driver) and the darn thing is filthy. I'll just call today and post the answer. I've had the maintainable K&N filters in other cars, but this isn't a K&N and I'm not sure it can be cleaned. They're pretty cheap though so to me it's just easier to buy a new one once a year...

Hey, anyone remember who makes those filter socks for the big air filters? I'm thinking that might help with the dirt issue....

Call Lee at C&L, he will set you up... When mine turned a year old I just replaced it. It was around $ 25 shipped...No muss no fuss...

OK, I just called and talked with Lee. It's ~$40 PLUS shipping from C&L. He said it's an "S&B" filter, with 4" neck opening and 8" long filter component (not including the neck length). He didn't know if there is a K&N equivilent or not. Googling provides some hits, although the S&B filters are listed by part number, not size. I just may call him back tomorrow and order it and be done with it. $40 a year is just fine as far as I'm concerned, but I'd rather find it locally or cheaper in the 'net if possible...

Hey, just reading your signature. How do those LCAs help with wheel hop at the track?

Hey John,

Man I could have swore it was $25...I must be delusional... The LCA's helped a lot on wheel hop. The CHE LCA relocation bracket ( bolt-in) is supposed to help a lot also, I will try that next.

There is really no reason for you guys replacing your filters after a year or so. Just order a K&N filtercharger kit from Jegs or Summit and clean and re-oil them yourselfs. They will last for years as long as they are not cut or torn.

S&B Air Filters are made to last, too, with premium urethane bindings and seals. They’re reusable for life, needing a quick cleaning every 40,000 to 50,000 miles—3 times longer than when a paper filter gets tossed. Best yet, S&B stands behind your high-performance S&B Air Filter with an incredible 1,000,000-mile warranty.

Yeah, everyone's convinced me to give cleaning a try--it's only a $10 kit--but a $40 swap for a new filter that's replaced once a year seem's reasonable too. Matter of priorities, I guess. Wonder if it's age...

By the way, have you had the car out lately? I've been taking advantage of our recent warm Maryland days and screaming down the roads after work with the window down just so I can hear the x-pipe/Mac muffler combo howl to the gods. Can't wait for regular track season and car shows to start up again this spring. I've got lots of changes since last season...my Steeda springs get installed next week, and I started ordering the components for my gauge pod and shift light last night. I'm still waffling on the BBK shorties, but I'll probably shoot for LCAs in a month or two...

I recommend sticking with the S&B Cleaning Kit - to avoid any warranty issues with their 1,000,000 mile warranty. I think it's around $10 at Jegs.
An extra filter would be good too - while one is drying, you can still drive your car

Oh yeah, my GT is a daily driver and I am loving this very mild winter! My last mods were the Hurst and TBI spacer on the same day. I'm thinking about the Pypes x or h pipe, but I just modified my girlfriends finger with a diamond so the modifications have slowed down a bit.
