My quest for THE sound....

Thats a good question, and I don't know the answer. I would assume that shorties would be louder than longtubes, but still quieter than the stock manifolds. Since LTs would be the most efficient and shorties being more efficient than the stock manifolds. And by "efficient" I mean providing more flow, less restriction and a more mellow sound. But if you are looking for more sound than performance, just stick with your stock manifolds and get a high flow catted mid pipe or an offroad mid pipe.
The absolute loudest I know I can get my car is with a catless x pipe and Loudmouths. However, it would be even louder if I still had the stock manifolds.
And the only experience I have had with cats is with the Bassani cats, and they were great. But Pypes also makes some, MAC and Dynatech do too, but Dynatech is not a suggested brand
ON A SIDE NOTE, my Violators arrived and now I am going to throw the X pipe back on and get these things bolted up

anyone tried the SLP X with cats?

I don't want to get rid of the cats (because I'm in California) but I do want louder! I wonder, if cutting open the flowmasters and modifying the insides would be an option? I bet that would change the tone though, darn I love the tone, but not loud enough! haha!
Or just out of curiosity, what would loudmouths sound like with all the rest of the exhaust parts being stock? Would it just be louder? or would it be nasty sounding?

Search around, I have seen a clip of a Mustang running everything stock with SLPs. However, you can get a taste of that by removing your mufflers, just to get an idea of the sound.
An X pipe with high flow cats was the second thing I did after I had my MAC mufflers on for a couple months. X pipe for the louder sound, H pipe for the deeper, but not near as loud, sound. If you're running Flowmasters now, adding a catted X pipe would definitely enhance that sound.

Thanks! I think I'll give an X pipe a shot, I don't really think I want to go mufflerless, my camaro had cutouts on it, and it was pretty **** loud, it was right after the headers.
I see you listed a few brands for X pipes, are any particular X with catalytic converters brand louder or better sounding than others? or is one high flow cat and X pretty much the same as any other brand in terms of sound?
Maybe I should start a different thread on this? I think I'm deviating from the original post. I apologize about that! If I have any other questions or comments on this, I'll start a new thread.

I really don't think there would be much of a difference from one X pipe to another, other than construction and craftsmanship. I've only had the Bassani, and I can attest to its quality and fit. There are a few other companies that offer X pipes, and their designs differ a tad bit. But I wouldn't think that one would be significantly different than the other in terms of HP and sound. Just from going to the Prochamber to the X pipe, I would assume that an x pipe with a design such as this might be louder than the Bassani design. And I might be dead wrong also!
With the high flow cats, I also only have experience with the Bassanis, so as far as those go, I have no idea if some are better than others. Thats a realm that I am not even going to attempt to make any assumptions
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea opening a new thread, you'd definitely get more views from more knowledgable people. My experience is nowhere near what others is!

Got them all finished up this morning. Man I can't get over how well put together these mufflers are! They are definitely the best quality muffler that I have had yet. Even the Bassanis don't hold a candle to these.
The sound is nice and surprisingly deep, theres a little bit of the rattle can sound when you get on it, but its nothing compared to the other sounds I have heard. I really like these mufflers, still not quite what I want, but I am very happy with them

I too just put on a set of Violators, and I love how they sound. Definitely a different sound than the Flowmasters. Our local Mustang customizing shop was very impressed with the craftsmanship of the Pypes X-Pipe and mufflers. He said they installed easier than the previous brands he has dealt with (MAC, Flowmaster, etc.).
