I got an email today stating that the Violators I ordered will not be in stock until the 2nd week in July. So since I have some time, I think I am going to try those Hooker tips with the resonators built in.
On another note, I figured out what I could compare the sound to: a low flying airplane. At certain rpms though...

Just curious, what would cutouts with stock headers sound like? (cutouts before the Cats, if thats possible on these cars). Anyone tried that? I had cutouts with shorty edelbrock headers on my old camaro, I loved it. Would a stock header GT sound horrible? (for cruising around only, I imagine alot of power would be lost if running open like that at a drag?)
I love the sound of my stock exhaust + flowmasters, (it's got some growl at mid RPM, and doesn't attract alot of attention) but there are times when I'd love to get that open header sound again (electronic butterflies are great for cutouts!)

I'll be putting my cutouts on my X-pipe, well past the tranny where the heat won't bother anything else.

Latest Experiment:
Decided to try a larger tip, thinking that might take care of some of the trumpeting and the drone, as well as make it deeper. So I ordered a pair of Hooker tips, 4" with a built in resonator, and had them installed today.
Quieter than the SLPs, took care of some of the trumpeting down low, but now its a little tinny uptop. I guess I could say its a smaller trumpet I do like the larger tip, but I think the SLPs will be going back on. This was definitely one of the cheaper experiments, as I have $77 for the tips (which are very very good quality) and $50 for the welding Still waiting on the Violators....

Thanks!
No, the Violators aren't scheduled to be in until the 2nd week in July So I figured I would try something between now and then just to satisfy my curiosity. Sadly, its still hungry

Well yesterday the SLPs went back on. The Hooker tips quieted it down a LOT more than I was expecting, and that certainly is not what this journey is about However, I did trim the exhaust hanger on the drivers side a tad, I found that if I put the tip too far out, the hanger would rub the frame, and positioned the tips sticking as far out as I could. But not far enough to look stupid. What I found was that the trumpeting around 3000 rpms got pushed a little higher So now this has me wondering if either the overall length of the exhaust or how long the tip itself is has any effect on trumpeting.

BTW, 4.10 gears will pretty much fix the drone problem.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of "drone", it basically sounds like your car is humming, really loud, but its only on the inside.
Warbird, if you watch 94Tbirds clips, you can hear them somewhat when he opens it up.
Don are you running any type of cat? I've been playing with the idea of putting some back on if the Violators do not appease me....

i am not much of a performance guy (even though i am going to add the H.O. whipple 11psi system) since i am shooting more towards carshows than dragstrips or road courses and i want the loudest meanest sound i can find i know LMs are loud but what can i use for a midpipe and LTs

If all you want is LOUD, then go with the LTs, catless, and LMs. Hell, you might even like it.
