minor oil leak
minor oil leak
I changed the oil on my mustang last night and found the oil pan was wet with oil. It hasn't dripped on the garage floor, but I could see oil had splashed on the transmission pan as well. I looked around the engine block and couldn't see any leaks above the oil pan. I appears to be leaking around the senor in the pan. Does anybody know how tight that sensor should be? Does it have tapered treads? I put a wrench on it and it did tighten without much effort, but I didn't want to strip it out or damage the oil pan.
I have put the car away for the winter, otherwise I would have my dealer take a look at it.

well some autos like mine had tranny fluid on the bell housing. i cleaned it off and waited a few weeks and never saw any again. i believe some were overfilled from the factory since lots of people have seen this. it comes down the vent tube. but there is also a tsb on the problem so take it to the dealer one day.
I had an oil leak fixed under warranty. At first, the dealer said it was a main seal. Main seal replaced, car returned just to take it home and have it leak again. Took it in again. I guess they looked at it a little better, found the main cap cross bolt was leaking. Not sure if they tightened it or replaced it. In any case I was out of a ride for several days.....nice.
