They can last as short as 5,000-10,000 miles or as long as 100,000 miles depending on how you drive. The more J-turns and burnouts that are done, the shorter the life (obviously) but normal driving won't kill it as quickly. They always slip when you make a turn.
Mine are on the way out. I'm still not decided on if I'll go to the carbon fiber clutches or a Detroit Tru-Trac.
The 4 Tru-Trac failures have goten me worried.

Mine was quiet until I put in the 410's and used redline fluid 75W90 which was supposed to have the friction modifier in it. It started this groaning in turns so I drained the fluid and put in royal purple 75W140 and no more groan. I'm not sure if the difference in the weight of the iol is to blame or the lack of friction modifier. I had the gears installed by a master ford technician on his own time at the dealership and they seem to be set up correctly.

The weight of the oil will do it.

Been over a year and probably around 10k miles, and still not a peep out of mine after adding the XL3 modifier.

Mine is quiet as a mouse. It's been over 25K miles since I added the XL3, and it still lays 2 even patches of rubber every time!!!

It's only about $6 for a bottle of XL3 friction modifier at your local dealership. Takes about 5-10 minutes to put it in. The only hard thing I found was it was tough getting that darn plug out from the differential. I didn't have the right size tool either, so that sucked. I managed though.

I'm not touching mine, it is a reminder that it's still there and doing what it 's supposed to do. Everybody likes a nice tight rear end right?

Dave, Sorry about your noise coming back.

I don't have to worry about the same happening to mine. I now have an Eaton/Detroit TrueTrac. Had it installed with my FRPP 4.10s a couple weeks ago.

PM me with details on that sucker, install, where'd you have it done, etc.... ya bastid.... you just might make me spend some more $$$$

I just did some research and that sounds like a darn good idea for my ride (maybe not right NOW but maybe in a bit)

eliminates the clutch packs - and I was considering new gears.....
