How Do I Replace The Fake Fuel Door?
How do I replace the fake fuel door on the trunk lid? Earlier today, whilst trying to remove dried up wax, I put a hefty scratch in it. It's not going to be noticeable to most people but I know it's there and it has to go. I have a replacement on its way, just need to know how to remove the scratched one.
Thanks in advance for your help.

use a pick first. Pry up from the keyhole. take your time and work it loose. As it starts to lift, just SLOWLY pull it back and downward. The tape covers the entire underside of the cap, so take your time. It really is easy though. Soooo, are you going SHR or back to stock. It is an opportunity you know.

Little heat from the blow dryer will never hurt it. Mine was fairly new, so it was not a problem at all for me. You might want to get a small flathead srewdriver also for prying it loose from inside the keyhole area, once you loosen it with the pick.
I used fishing string in a sawing motion to cut thru the old adhesive. It does come loose quite easy though after you get it moving.
it's been over 6 months, but i REALLY think it's also held down by 2 screws!
you'll have to remove the luggage compartment trim panel (careful that light gets REALLY HOT)
remove the 2 screws holding the trunk lid lock cylinder
then proceed to pry off the fake gas cap as suggested
EDIT: well i could have sworn mine had screws.. well apparently not

NOPE!! There are two pins on the faux cap, similar to on the GT emblems, but NOT screws.
Different methods are abundant. Depends on what you really want to acomplish. I my particular case, and I think here also, was to JUST repalce the cap itself, and NOT the removal of the adheasive ring.

Man why would you go back to stock when you could get a silver horse racing emblem, looks functional like the older styles and blows stock away. You can also have the lettering painted etc. Hopefully you will change your mind, they got great stuff. good luck
removal is very easy just carefully use a screwdriver or pick and go to the inside of the key hole area and very slowly pry backwards until the whole thing starts to pry away, take your time and all is well.
