Not true ren274u, the ratchet mechanism prevents missed shifts which with the stock shifter is quite possible by just pushing it just a little to far. This will give you an advantage in both drag and road racing by allowing much more precise gear selection. If you are looking for an appearance upgrade there are much less expensive and less complicated (installation-wise) ways to accomplish that.

The ECU transmission control function is programmable and can be modified by a tuner who provides tunes for flash devices like the SCT Livewire.

subzero05, could the shifter kit be designed to accept the OEM solenoids? Then all you'd have to do is transplant the original solenoid during installation and you'd be ready to go. Any electrical connection issue could be overcome by providing a pigtail adapter to fit both solenoids and it would seem mounting issues could be handled, likewise, with a selectable mounting bracket. Such an approach would also make adapting to any future changes from Ford easier to deal with.

There are two reasons NOT to feel bad for us:

1. We don't need another shifter... the stock one works perfectly fine, and
2. Our auto trans cars are faster than the manuals.

Clutch Delete FTW!!!

Actually for ANYONE who may still be interested I need a test car!!!. Sooner the better. We believe we have finally worked out a solution and we need to install a shifter in a car and have an "enthusiast" test it out for a week or two...if anybody is interested send me a PM...

I still have a few adjustments to make and I will be doing a write up, this is one of B&M's shifters you can buy now at most auto parts stores, full ratchet action, it has been fun as hell to play with, also the way I insulated the top and bottom I have cut down on some of the excessive console heat. (I think I may be one of the only S197s with this mod)

a couple more weeks and I will have something put together

to future9er24, hatebreeder, george06, and others, thanks for the kind comments, to me this was the ultimate "mod", I did in my garage, would have been nice to have a bunch of creative engineers to help as well as a little more in the R&D budget. LOL

I bought the shifter used from craigslist, so far I have spent maybe 100 -110 bucks total, I did have some of the materials already and some things I bought I didnt use (extra bolts, etc.) my guess is if you buy a shifter new and the pieces I used to install you will spend about 225. - 250. bucks at the most, depending on where you shop.
