I’m just surprised you are not more upset about the tune. If I paid for a kit that was supposed to include a good tune I would be very upset that the tune was so bad I was afraid get on it and get into boost.

Well, I think it's because I knew I was going to get the car custom tuned from the beginning... more for engine safety than to squeeze out every bit of HP. And, it'll be nice to have the dyno numbers.

So, I never planned on getting on the car hard until the custom tune, anyway.

New tune date: this Thursday, 11/29/07!

I had no problems at all on the way to work and back today.

I still didn't get on it hard, but I did ease the RPMs up and WOW does it scream. I do have the wide open hole in my hood, so when the shaker is back on you probably won't hear it as much. And this is with the pedal down, what, 1/4 of the way??

When I got home I took the car right up on the ramps and checked it out after it cooled down.

Everything looked great! I re-checked several of the bolts since the car has been through several heat cycles. A couple tightened up a hair more, but for the most part, everything was good.

Thanks again to J.R. (GMS), Scott (the tuner), and Russ (turbo05gt) for all the assistance through the install. Yeah, the tune could have been better, but they all helped me out as much as they could.

After Thursday, everything will have been worth the wait!

Ordinarily I would agree however from day one it was our intension to have Scott Beer do a custom tune. Scott sent him a base tune and granted it was off a bit. Historically Scott has been spot on

So it's a safe bet you'll be taking it down the track at FFW in March next year?

I missed this one, I don’t know why anyone would run the "canned" tune provided by ANY manufacturer not Vortec, Pro Charger or this one. A canned tune at BEST is adequate for a bolt on car. IMO it would be rather silly to risk your motor to save a few hundred bucks.

You were looking in my Photobucket!!! But you missed the hidden dyno chart!

Here is the post I put in Ponies on the Run (the thread I live in ):

(I don't want to start a debate over the numbers - let's wait and see what the Dyno Jet shows.)

OK... here's the deal. The car was dyno'd on a SuperFlow dyno, which is different than what I had my previous dyno runs performed on (a Dyno Jet). It's great for tuning, but it's like comparing apples and oranges when you are talking about numbers. So, I'm going to pay my $55 to have Justin at VMP Tuning dyno the car on the EXACT same Dyno Jet machine that I had my '89 dyno'd on. Then we can compare apples to apples.

At any rate, here is the dyno chart: DYNO CHART

RWHP = 392.4
RWTQ = 355.4
A/F Ratio = 11.5:1 across the entire RPM range (very conservative and safe)

Scott predicts that on a Dyno Jet, the RWHP will be 430, since there is an actual convertion from a FlowJet to a DynoJet. As far as torque? He never said... 400?

But, like I said, we'll either confirm or deny that sometime down the road.

ON THE STREET:

The car flies! I'm uploading videos now, but they don't do the real ride justice!
No more hesitation, stumble, falling on it's face, etc.
The WOT A/F ratio was <10.1:1, now it's 11.5:1.
Average gas mileage to the tune = 17.9
Average gas mileage back from the tune = 26.4 (30.0+ at 60 with cruise control on)

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

Happy! But really wanted to see that 425. We'll find out soon enough!!

I agree more then less. 350 to 400 at the rear should be ok with a reg tune

Hey Jr do you guys plan to offer your kit with a smaller turbo or small back half for guys that are fine with 5-500 but want a quicker spool time?

Here are some videos I uploaded:

It was hard to hold the camera still for some of those shifts!
I can't believe you can't hear the blow of valve in the videos - must be the mic on the camera.

Scott tuning - still too rich and backfiring on decel.

Scott street tuning.

First street pull - still too rich.

Yeah, it doesn't lose boost in between shifts.

Fan-tastic! It's 11.5:1... Perfect!

Purr-fect!

You could race a Shelby with this thing right now and kick it's butt!

Thanks! You're right - it's great to get on it and it sounds awesome! I wish the videos were half as good as the ride in the car!

I know I shouldn't let the numbers get me down, but I will still feel better once I confirm them on a DynoJet. If they don't go up, than so be it! If they do, then !

------------------

Russ: Since your help has been invaluable, what is your opinion on what I would see on a Dyno Jet? Any change? No change?

My curiosity is getting the best of me...

13psi - wierd. At 13 it should have a but load more hp and torque I agree - 2.3 hours ago someone called and asked what our A/R housing was. I knew it had to do with this but my sales guys were not on the ball

Hey that was me, he was pleasant to talk to and didn’t try to bs me (like a lot do), he didn’t know right away but got the correct info.

The power may be down due to the dyno, but what do you think about the boost curve?

This is what I don't get. Most people, if they want more, will go get it tuned past the "canned" tune. In this case you knew this up-front. So why again was the tune so bad to begin with, stumbling ??. Yes a "canned" tune is gonna be conservative, ala Ford's Whipple tune, but shouldn't it work out of the box ? Shouldn't someone not HAVE to get it dyno tuned to prevent the car from falling on it's face ?

What if something happened and a guy, myself perhaps, blew his wad on what's in the box and has to live with it for a coupla months. It would make sense to me that out-of-box experience should be important. The car should work without someone worrying about blowing everything up until he can get it on a dyno.

What am I missing here ?
