Filter Clean/Replace?

My CAI has a washable hi-flow cone filter. How often do you think should I clean it? Is it better to just replace it?

Um...also how do you clean it? I know it says "washable" but I doubt they mean to take it into the shower with me.

Id be interested in this to! I would assume you take it to the sink and run some water over it?

Well, a friend and coworker said I should pick up a K&N filter cleaner kit, which has some kind of spray cleaner and oil. Supposedly you spray the filter outside with cleaner, then wash it with water, let it dry, then spray it with the oil on the outside.

Hell, for all that work, might as well just buy a new filter.

I don't have a CAI on mine but I've seen other threads about the oil coming off the filter & coating the MAF sensor--is this a problem normally & is there a way to clean the sensor without a lot of trouble?

I purchased a clean and recharge kit for my Green Filter for $16. It woke my car up although the Demolet cold air kit I purchased suggested to clean every 25K miles. Must be I was ready for a clean and recharge

I clean mine using the K&N filter kit. It is really easy...spray cleaner on it....hose it off...let dry in the sun...spray oil on it...put it back on the car. I usually do it on an afternoon that I don't plan on driving it until the next day.

I would rather do this than spend $40 or $50 on a new one. Of course you could always buy a spare one and rotate them. Always have a clean one on hand.

The MAF is easy to clean as well. Only a plug and 2 screws hold it on. Just spray MAF cleaner on the wires...let dry and put it back on.

Yeah, I was looking at mine tonight. Same thing. Says something like "do not wash with oil."

I like the idea of having two. Maybe I'll do that and always have a swap. That way when I clean one, I can just pop in the other right away. Since it's my only car, it kinda sucks taking it out of action for hours on end.

Of course...it's out of action right now. Something's fudged with the MAF.

Sounds good to me--when I had my Pontiac I used one for several years but with changes in electronics in cars I'm concerned about screwing up that MAF. I'll shop around & probably get 2 & switch them out.
