If I had needed to leave my car stock because I didn't have the money to risk losing the warranty, I would have put away some money on the side for 2-3 years and had fun with a stock '05 Mustang with 300+ horses. Then, when the warranty ran out, I would take all that money I saved up and get a super charger, new exhaust, etc... and some exterior appearance mods to make it look different somehow... and then I'd have basically a new car to have fun with.

That's what I did with my 96GT. I enjoyed it stock and waited until the warranty was up to add the X-pipe, chip, and Vortech. It was like a new car again (but alot cheaper)

Great thread guys, it's really helpful!

I was noticing the JLT heat shield seems a little...well crappy. Jay, any reason you don't go with a 90%isolation of the filter from the engine like the C&L kit? For all the good things everyone is saying about your intake, it seems odd to leave so much open space. I'm vacillating between the C&L and the JLT II, and this is one of the factors I am considering.

Also, which of Doug's tunes is proving to be the most useful for you guys? I have seen many get the performance, and some get the torque. Which one is recommended for a daily driver? I'd like to up the gas mileage too....

I get better mileage with the performance tune, but maybe that's just me. The torque tune is so much fun down low, any good natured conservative driver (like myself) will want to throw their MPG cares out the window!

Our main objective was to block heat from the drivers side header at idle and low speed.

If you do a search there is a long thread on IAT temps of all the CAI's.
You will see the temps read by the JLT are about the same as the full shielded CAI's.
At speed there is tons of air flow under the hood so temps are lower then you would think.

Also, in order to keep our price as low as it is, over manufacturing the kit won't allow that. So the more unneeded parts, ie air filter shields with gaskets to seal th the hood, the higher the price will go.

In testing I did not see the need for this full shield and this helped keep cost down.
Best HP/$ is what I was going for.

Thanks
Jay

What he said... and I've noticed the trend continue after the SC, too. I need to get an "unleaded" right foot...

I just removed the JLT heat shield yesterday.
It won't stay upright and the mounting tang is about to break off...
[attachmentid=45069]

BTW, what's this "torque tune"?

I added some weather stripping foam tape to the side and bottom of my heat shield. I also cut some of the plastic off the bottom because it was riding on a hose. The weather stripping seems to hold it in place.

PS - the torque tune is a BamaChips special. When I got my tuner from Doug it came with a torque tune and a performance tune. The torque tune gives you better low RPM pull. The performance tune makes more HP at higher RPM.
