the tests showed a gain of 25HP. That's WITHOUT their new heatshield that wasn't out at the time of the testing. It's out now... just got mine in the mail the other day. It's $50 for the shield, and is sure to bring the gains up to near 30HP.

That's quite an assumption.

Anyway, I love the idea of the WRS, but according to JLT the temps going into their intake are minimally different that ambient temps, so that essentially nullifies the point of using the WRS, or a heatshield, for that matter.

Of course, you have to trust JLT on that one, but considering they have the biggest gains, I'll trust them.

Go with JLT Series II, Xcal 2 and tunes from BamaChips and you won't be disappointed.

Ditto. Doug is great to work with. Plus for an additional $25 you can have the JLTII painted to match you car color. I love mine...

I had a datalogging thread going a couple of months or so ago. The JLT does a VERY good job of keeping the inlet temperatures very close to ambiant. It also has MUCH less heat soak than the stock intake as well. Your definitely not giving anything up in the inlet temp department going with the JLT.

But in the interest of full disclosure, the WMS intake DID have a slightly faster temperature response (cooling down when running down the road) due to the very short intake. But the difference was insiginificant between them, especially when compared to the stock intake (that sucker holds a LOT of heat and gets VERY hot sitting at idel!)

I am sold on the JLT Series II, Xcal 2 and tunes from BamaChips. Do I get the CAI from JLT, and them get the tunes from Doug? or is it a combo from either one of them? Also If I get a Jet TBS, is there enough room for both? Thanks for the input.....

Surprised nobody has mentioned anything about MMR. They are a little on the expensive side at $350 for the CAI w/ the highflow tube. But, the tests showed a gain of 25HP. At first I thought a heat shield would not see much of a gain at all. That's actually what Mark at MMR told me when I talked to him about getting their CAI back when it first came out. Of course, he was going off of assumption at that time, and hadn't done any testing. In the 5.0 article though, they specifically say that inlet temperatures were very hot during testing without a shield, and that "Air-filter shielding is crucial for good performance." I'm sure this is why most CAI's out there come with a heat shield... and why MMR decided to go ahead and make one. Maybe 5HP from adding a heat shield is a bit too hopeful... but I can at least see it getting a couple HP to make the MMR equal the gains of the JLT.

Doug has them. Just call him or write. The spacer should work. However, you may want to rethink the purchase. I heard it's a waste of money. People aren't seeing any gains. Do a search. There are several write-ups. Remeber, if you don't see any gains, it's just extra weight.

I'm pleased with the S&B (Ford Racing) one. Fairly easy install, good quality parts, no CEL problem -- and my MPG has increased by at least 10%
No chance to dyno it yet.

There is room for both, should you decide to get one. I have one and the JLT II. Just be careful on the install. The plastic inlet pipe will want to rest on the top of the power steering fluid reservoir (?) instead of the rubber hose and it will scratch it up. Use a towel or rag to protect it while installing and then use the rubber hose protector in the kit on the reservior lid instead.

Personally, I have to agree with the others, you really won't see much benefit out of the spacer. But you will get plenty of fun out of the JLT II and Doug's tunes!

I love my JLT CAI. It was half the price of say a C&L CAI (got it for only $150 from JLT's website) and I made some real good power numbers from it. The numbers are in my sig.

Hey, anyone know what the Outerwears pre-filter number is for the C&L or JLT filter? I ask because I saw another thread about these things getting dirty and I'd like to know if anyone here making recommendations is using one.

I have one and it was a total waste as a filter but was good eye candy for car shows.

Hi,

Everyone says Doug @ BamaChips is great.

Questions:

1) Does that mean one orders the kit with the Xcal2 tuner through Jay ?
- For example "JLT Series II Cold Air Intake kit with NEW SCT X-calibrator 2 package deal" - $555, says it comes with 3 tunes, Are these canned tunes?

2) After you've ordered the kit, does one than order the tunes from Doug ?

3) Can the intake + colour change + xcal2, be ordered through Doug ?

Thanks,

I'm new to the mustang world and have been looking into what CAI I can get my hands on the boost power without adding the tune. I'm worried the tune could void parts of my warranty. Does anyone have any insight on this? I talked to the warranty guy just the other day at my dealer and he said I have to be carefull when messing with the computer. They've had some diesel trucks come in lately with engine problems due to a chip and the warranty wasn't honored. It didn't sound like he was 100% sure though.

You should be able to get a CAI that does not require a tune. I believe AFE makes one for GT as well as for V6 (I have a V6). Since it does not require a computer reflash you won't void your warranty AS MUCH. You still need to move the MAF sensor, so some not so nice dealership might argue that this voids a warranty for some things as well. But, that's rather unlikely. However, you won't get as much of a power increase as with the given CAI AND a tune. It's kind of a trade.

Messing with the warranty is a sketchy thing. It's never going to be black and white. As many mods as I have done, I have gone to my dealer for problems and they fixed it and paid for it no questions asked. I didn't even reflash my computer back to stock. The last time I went in I had the SLP Loudmouths on and had gutted out my stock cats. It sounded almost like open headers and everyone there could obviously tell I had done work on my car. Guys were looking under the hood, etc... and nobody said a thing. It totally depends on your dealer. Some dealers are going to screw you on the warranty any chance they can. If your dealer seems strict, don't chance doing a thing to your car. Leave it stock until the warranty runs out and then mod away.

Edit: If I had needed to leave my car stock because I didn't have the money to risk losing the warranty, I would have put away some money on the side for 2-3 years and had fun with a stock '05 Mustang with 300+ horses. Then, when the warranty ran out, I would take all that money I saved up and get a super charger, new exhaust, etc... and some exterior appearance mods to make it look different somehow... and then I'd have basically a new car to have fun with.

The best intake overall though seems to me the JLT. You definitely get the most for your money.

JLT (original): 170 shipped
pullies: 150 shipped (bought from TMS member)
dyno tune: 250

40+rwhp gain (~275---->322.5 *uncorrected #s*) for under 600$ out the door (because jlt kicks so much ****): priceless

take a guess where my vote goes

If it works and fits like the one I installed for a custumers WRX STI, It would not come reccomended from me.

I'd rather see everyone buy something other than that thing.
