SSBC or Steeda are also good alternatives and I have ridden in 05's with both these front kits and they also show extremely good improvement over stock. Check out Inmotionperf.com or PM me for pricing on any of these kits.

I thought this was Benspeed's next group purchase! THere's supposed to be three different levels of cost. Where is the post...?

Another good alternative, but IMO the HPS are a pure street pad. The HP+ or Hawk Blues would be a better choice for open track days. I plan on running my car in a couple of events per year, so a BBK like the 00R would be beneficial to me.

I tried the Steeda braided lines and Hawk HPS all around and have to agree - an improvement and worth the money - especially the "less mushy" pedal feel - but the car needs more for track days....

I keep staring at Stoptech/Steeda thinking that if I stare long enough, they will be delivered to my door.

Then I remember I'l also need 18 inch wheels...so I start thinking of ponzi schemes and....oh helll..some day.

I am kinda waiting a bit to do my brakes since it's still winter here in Chicago. I need something that can handle track days and I am hard on brakes. I would love to buy a Stoptech kit, but again I need to run 17's during winter and probably for R compounds. If the 00 R brakes can be made to work, it would be a great option.

How about some Hawk blues for track days? Good to hear the braided lines get rid of some of the mush. Our stock calipers are actually pretty decent grabbers--they just need a better pad.

I wanted to avoid swapping them out...I'm always tight on time.

I'm sure a more track oriented pad will do better, if you want to do the swap before and after each event it seems like the way to go without spending gobs of cash.

The 05+ Mustang is a heavy car though, so I'm betting bigger rotors really are needed...look at the FR500C with 14 inch with 4 pot Brembos...

One warning though on the Steeda lines - the shop that installed them for me said the lines were a bit too short, if the car were to go on a lift that lets the wheels hang, it would tweak the lines... WTF I said!!.....so they had to do somethign McGuiver'ish with the bracket. This was last August. Maybe Steeda has solved the issue by now.

I'm hoping the Cobra R kit can be made to fit.

If not, I'm looking at the following:

* StopTech SportStop slotted rotors (front only)
* StopTech stainless steel brake lines
* Hawk Street Performance Ceramic (front only)

Comes out to about $500.

I know absolutely nothing about brakes other than I'll need some better ones once I'm making 425 rwhp... So what do you guys think? Are new calipers really necessary? I'm not looking to do any track events, just peace of mind on the highway really...

I guess this will be a good post to bring it up. Yes for Feb I can give you all a nice GP on a decent brake kit. I have tested a very nice kit from StopTech that included front and rear rotors, stainless lines, and Hawk Pads. It also came with fluid. It fit perfect. I am not at the shop but off the top of my head I think the kit with slotted or drilled rotors will run between $700 to $800 for the GP. Don't hold me to it as I dont have the figures in front of me. I have it on my own GT and love them. For the money they work great and the car stops awesome. They are stock sized rotors so rim fitment is not an issue with this kit. I believe I can offer this same kit with no rotors for around $300 to $350 which will still improve your stopping and give you a better pedal. I was not planning on big brakes in this GP but if somebody wants them I can do it for you if you contact me. If somebody wants to start a GP thread and PM me about it I will get pricing listed. I will put the parts up on the site and do a discount code for the GP. It will be Monday when I can get our site updated for you with images and all.

The great thing about the kit for $700 to $800 was it was very easy to install. Anybody with mechanical knowledge can put it on or any shop that does stock brakes can install it. There was nothing tricky about it. Not only do they work great but the drilled rotors on all 4 look cool as well.

The StopTech description for the stage 2 kit is...
"StopTech's SportStop slotted or drilled rotors, StopTech stainless steel brake lines, street performance pads and 3 bottles of Motul RBF600 brake fluid. Rotors, lines and pads are for both front and rear. Components can also be purchased separately. FITS STOCK CALIPERS."

This picture is of the kit we tested.

I'm in the GP w/o rotors if it happens. Autocross season starts in two weeks!

Does anyone have problems with BRAKE DUST with the HAWK PADS?, i know they advertise LOW brake dust, but I've seen a forum member's wheels in person with the HAWK Pads and they literally make his front rims BLACK!!

I have the same issues. I'd rather do performance and suspension mods first, so I talked to Zeckhausen racing, who sell all the kits, and he said for now, Power slot cryorotars all around, stainless brakelines, DOT 4+ fluid + the Hawk N series pads, and I'd have 90% of what you get anyway. Yes, the N hawks do dust more, it's the F's that don't dust as much, but they don't have the grip either. Erik

So for about $600 I have excellent breaking that can take a lot of heat, and great stopping power. Sure, in a year I'll drop the $2200front + install + rear baers850+ install. I'd rather put the $3200 into race tight suspension, and of course my SC being at a frightning tune. Erik

Anyone deal with the HAWK Ceramic Pads and if they dust a lot? Thats the thing, I want great braking but dont want to dirty up my brand new rims with brake dust and having to clean them all the time.

Any benefits of getting PowerSlotted Rotors and just using stock brakes?

Can xdrilled or sloted rotors be turned if they warp....what about between pads. I was always told rotors need to be turned when you change the pads. Of cource that was from the person doing the work lol.

I like that kit you have there Brent! So do those pads make a lot of dust since you have been running them for a lil while.

True someone can just upgrade the pads but that’s missing part of point- these Brembo calipers look awesome! The stock calipers look like they were cast from an old sand mold.

For $825 (w/o slotted rotors) this is a deal compared to Stop Tech and others. If anyone has retrofitted these to an S197 Mustang I’m all ears??

I’m not sold on waiting for the new Shelby GT500 brakes, these have massive 14” rotors which is a huge mass to add to the unsprung weight (handling) of the suspension.
