I'm considering upgrading to a 6 speed transmission. Has anyone upgraded? I was looking through the Ford Racing catalog and found the T-56. Has anyone installed one? Would it be a good idea to go ahead and upgrade the clutch too? I was looking at the SPEC Stage 2 kit. Would the drive shaft need to be shortened? Can I purchase a shorter one? Thanks for any feedback/advice.

First, what are you trying to accomplish? Greater strength, different ratios? TKO600 not an option?

Seems like an expensive upgrade. What do you want to get out of having 6 gears?

Try http://www.ddperformance.com/
I have had very good luck with them and they are really good. If anybody can help you they can. I did not see a 6 speed listed on their website for the 05, but I think they have one set up for the 05. Call and ask about it. Again, they are about the best when it comes to trannies.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the info. My car is amazingly strong up to 140mph or the end of 4th gear. As soon as I hit 5th gear all the power disappears.

I have a 6 speed in my bmw and it pulls hard in 4th and 5th all the way up to 160mph. After looking at the gear ratios I'm hoping that the extra gear will give me the leverage to go beyond 140mph.

I know it's not legal or really safe to go that fast, but we have some wide open country out here and I would like to see just how fast the car can go.

If you really want 5th to pull hard to full power, 5,800-6,000 rpms, swap out the gears for 4.30's - assuming you removed the speed limiter, it should pull to 152-155. Or for the same $5,000, you could install a good supercharger and with the 3.55's, 5th will pull you into the 160's, if you really wnated to go that fast.

yes but the 6speeds allows you to run an SC and real tall gears (Im planning on 4.10s w/ the SC) and still be able to cruise on the freeway without burning through gas as well as drop it into a lower gear and accelerate hard at higher speeds (again on freeway is perfect example) without redlining too quickly. I say 6speed, Whipple and 4.10s 4 t3h win!!!!!!!!!

I hear that. I do have a ProCharger so it pulls amazingly hard until 5th. I think I'm going to go to a 6 speed and then if I'm still not happy with the top end I'll go with some 4.10s. Thanks for all the feedback.

Unless you are planning to modify first gear in the T56 then 4.10s and any of the positive displacement blowers will be overkill and traction may prove to be a major problem. Of course, I'm sure DonW will disagee

Actually, I agree that 4.10s and a PD blower may indeed cause traction issues. But, I also think a 275/60-15 drag radial will cure those ills.

Wow. 140. I guess you need more gears than me. I rarely hit 85.
