1/4 mile goal achieved for this year

my goal for the year was to trim .5 off my last year's best time and I achieved it on Friday night. Last year: K&N air charger. New this year: BamaChips 91 perf. tune; Steeda LCA's and UCA, M&H Drag Radials 275/50/17 - and most importantly, more practice. I still have less than 75 runs under my belt so there's a lot more room for improvement. Probably going to get the 4.10s this summer, too.

Good job Always nice to meet your goals. Are you saying you are still running 3.55's with the M&H's? Did you have any problems with bog? What were your 60's times? Thanks.

yes, stock gears. The taller tires do induce bog. The best 60' I have is 2.129. My quickest 1/4 at 60' was 2.158 and I spun a lot. I'm thinking maybe I should have gone with a shorter 275/40/17 and not bother with gears.

True... because the track is at 2300 feet, uphill, and not well prepped on street legal nights. It's not practical to compare to times at other tracks. 13.996 if you must know. On the plus side they don't strictly enforce the regulations. But if I get consistent in the 13's they will ask me to get a helmet. And they let people run true slicks on street legal nights. If only I could find some to fit on a 17 inch rim.

I expect to get to sea level in the fall and look forward to seeing what the difference is.

FWIW, I was running the 26" tall 275/40-17 DRs with 4.10s and never had any traction problems, even on the poorly prepped "temporary" track I run on. N/A 60' times were in the 1.9 range, and with the blower I got a 1.79. And this is with an auto trans and stock torque converter. I'm a firm believer that unless you have gobs and gobs of stump pulling torque, a shorter tire will work better in most cases.

I think you're right with the shorter tire - especially on the stock gears. Either I bog down or have to give so much gas that they spin. When these tires need replacement I'll probably go to a shorter tire... depending on how the 4.10s work out... ordered today

If you're racing at Thunder Mountain or outside of Kamloops there you will likely be running a good 3-4 tenths down at sea level. Do a search for altitude conversion charts. Up here in Calgary it's even worse. Physically 3500 feet above sea level, not counting weather which can push the elevation the computer sees upwards of 6000!

I plan to buy a portable weather station for next year so I can do accurate conversions.
