Koni orange..having second thoughts about it

I just got my Koni orange delivered the other day for my 14 GT. I currently have eibach pro kit springs, 10.5 wide rear wheels, and 305 tires. I don't want my car any lower. I read some postings in here that the Koni orange are physically shorter by 1/4 inch than the oem shocks/struts and that it will drop the car an additional 1/4 inch. Can somebody confirm that?

If in fact it is correct, I may have to return it and look at other options.

My car lowered, Konis to be installed Monday

This is the first time I've heard the possibility of the Koni Orange giving an additional drop.

I have Roush springs which were supposed to lower the car by 1/2" but it really looks like 1". I am having Koni Oranges put in Monday.

While the springs are not the same, here are pics of my car with the Roush springs in them Koni's not in yet.

While its not the same setup as yours, I'll post pics after the Koni's are installed to see if there is any additional drop. Personally, I don't think there should be any, and I haven't seen them advertised on providing additional drop.

I have steeda springs with Koni orange on all 4 corners along with other steeda suspension parts and I love the stance and more importantly, the ride, Very close to stock ride but with a nice lower stance. I didn't want my stance too low and I can honestly tell you that I love the way it looks - I have staggered wheel set up as well 18x9 fronts and 18x10 rears! For the record, I've never heard of the Koni orange providing additional lowering. Best of luck.

Here is the thread I found saying that Koni orange lowers the car an additional 1/4 inch.

I had read that too, but I didn't notice any additional lowering when I installed them with my Steeda sport springs. If anything I was disappointed that I didn't get a little more of a drop.

The oranges weren't firm enough for me though so I ditched them for Bilsteins after a few weeks.

Shocks will not affect ride height. Changing springs will. You will have to compress your shock several inches when you install them. That is if your car is on ramps.

That's what I thought so too. Now, I am confused with the other guy's remark saying that it will lower the car another 1/4 inch.

A shock cannot do this. So the rear will ride the same.

The front strut, if its bolts are drilled that 1/4" too high, or the perch is mounted on the body of the strut a 1/4" too low, or a combination of the two, yes, that would cause the problem that's being described.

As to whether the Koni's are actually doing this... *shrug*. I did not notice this when I put my Oranges on Awesome. Same ride height as far as I could tell.

I think someone put the springs on, waited, then put the Oranges on, and of course, the car settled during that time on the new springs, and he just didn't notice it until after the strut install.

OP, I have that exact suspension set up. Eibach pro-kit and koni orange. 10 inch wide with 285 tires in the rear. I have about a 2 finger gap still but I have 30 series tires in the rear.

So, did you notice any additional drop with the Koni installed?

I think this is only problem for the 2005-2010 orange Koni shocks, as they work on 2011+, but you need gt500 mounts for it to work (I think thats where the whole issue originated, as people used those before Koni designed proper 2011+ STR.T shocks for the mustang)
If you got the proper 2011+ Koni STR.T for your car, you will not have any problem or any extra lowering.

I just got the car back today. No additional drop. Ride is great. I'm very happy. As been said before, it should have been this way from the factory.

Prior the installation, I did online chats both with AM and Koni. Both of them said there should be no additional drop and that the height is determined by the springs. Hope this helps. I'll post a pic once later and once I find a level surface.

Another vote for the Koni oranges. I do not see how the shocks could cause additional drop. I have similar setup with Steeda Sport springs and Koni oranges, but still have the stock brembo wheel package (square set up). The ride is firm but not too harsh. The handling is much better than stock.

Oh, another thing: You might need cc plates for the level that you're dropping because the camber might not be adjustable to spec. Might as well do it while its all taken apart.
