96-98 Cobra vs. 94-95 GT

I know this is late but I just found this site, but I know from experience that a stock 94 GT will blister the hide of a 98 Cobra. I have a 94 with 2 chamber flows and a k&n filter and my best friend had a 98 cobra. From a 60 mph kick I rolled him 5 car lengths and stayed there until I let off

What matters is how fast you can move through the powerband. So what if the Cobra has less torque or if it's at a higher rpm, slap in some lower gears (ie: 3.73s vs 3.27s) and you'll be in that range much faster.

A '94-'95 GT will do 0-60 in 6.0 - 6.5 seconds and run a high 14/ low 15 quarter mile while a '96- '98 Cobra will do 0-60 in 5.0 - 5.5 and the 1/4 in high 13's to low 14's assuming both cars are stock. You do the math.

For people with '96-'98 Cobras, the key to these cars is the rear. I believe the stock rear was 3.08. I was told by numerous people that dollar for dollar changing the gears gives you the biggest gain in these cars. I put in 3.73s and MAN, it woke the car RIGHT up. The first, second and third gear pull seemed as if it was doubled by doing this.
That car ran very very well. With the exception of the weak tranny (which I had to replace) it was rock solid.

Ding, ding, ding. Gears and your done! Down low they do feel sluggish with a stock rear end but change the gears to 3.73 or even better to 4.10 and it is a totally different car.

3rd gear at 60 with teh stock gears is acctually low in the 96-98's powerband, but as soon as they hit over 3500rpm its on. Sorry without seeing this, I cant believe it.
But yes, put in gears in a 96-98 and its a night and day difference. I ran 4.10's full time on the street and was completely happy with it. If I wasnt running nitrous or anything, 4.30's wouldnt have been a bad option either.
