Think about it. They've got union concessions. They've got steadily increasing prices. They've got a customer base accustomed to rebates/incentives. All they're doing is slowly increasing the prices to keep incentives alive and getting people in the showrooms to sell cars. And ultimately with the cost-cutting and labor concessions, the profits will continue. They've increased their quality to where selling a Mustang for the price of a Z doesn't seem so unrealistic any more. Previously Ford was not considered a particularly high-quality brand but over time they have really done a lot to change perception AND reality.
Now if Honda will just issue a few more recalls. . .

I'd go 2011 GT (indeed, that's what I'm doing). However, I don't care about resale value myself, and I have a sort-of knee jerk reaction against the Shelby because they labeled it a Shelby and not a Cobra. That, and somehow, the GT really excites me, whereas the GT500 does not. I can't explain it really.
My guess is you wouldn't agree with anything I've said. And if you learn anything from this, it should be that this is the kind of question you answer for yourself. Don't buy a car you think others will prefer. Buy one YOU prefer. To hell with everyone else.

Keep in mind that convertible in today's dollars would be a good 7,000 more just from inflation, and depending on options and other features it probably wasn't much better than a base model GT convertible. The MSRP on the Electronics Package is almost as much as the MSRP of a Mustang from 1964 when it first came out thanks to inflation.
Wonder if I can trade my EP for a 64 1/2 Mustang?

No, the GT is not up to "475 crank HP".
No, the 08 GT500 coupe is not 4100 lbs.
The GT500 is the faster car, both stock and mod for mod. No brainer on which to buy. It also has a much stronger powertrain.
(be nice)

Once again I want to thank everyone for taking the time to give their thoughts and opinions. I test drove the car yesterday and was fairly impressed with it. I couldn't really accelerate due to traffic, but what I was able to do I was impressed with the power and handling. I have been doing some research and found many complaining about the transmission quite a bit. As I was driving there was a lot of vibration coming through to the gear shift lever. Don't know if it's because of the amount of torque the engine has or something else. There was also a lot of vibration in the steering wheel, as if a tire was out of balance. The car has 4560 miles on it, so I can't imagine there is something horribly wrong with it. My GT should be here Thursday so I'll test it out and make a decision then. Of course, due to all of y'alls advice, I will not be paying any where close to 39 grand!! Again thanks for all the advice and I hope to be a long time member of this forum.

lol @ people who "calculate" "flywheel HP" from dyno #'s,
lol @ people talking about gas mileage when debating performance cars.
lol @ people who say 3870 lbs is "pig heavy" but 3625 is "light and balanced". The 08 Coupe is 6.5% heavier than the 11 GT. OOoOooOoOoOOoooO what a GIGANTIC difference!!! With that weight comes a clutch that doesn't smoke in 12 runs at the strip like Evo's GT. =)
