Rogue window adhesive

Installed a set of flush-mount louvers today, and some of the adhesive squished out from behind as i was setting them in place.

Anyone know what I can use to remove the excess??

You really should've gotten that out immediately. If it's in the crack, you're going to need to scrape it out... which I don't recommend. Maybe now would be a time to consider the Scott Drake quarter window trim.

My bad, it's not the actual adhesive, but the promotor haze that is a showing a bit on the edges. Can that stuff be cleaned? It's not part of the actually adhesion area.

Try a bug and tar remover and see if that works.

Do any of these work on contact or do they all require rubbing? Problem is the area is quite small metween the opening and the louvers.

Bug and tar removers should work on contact. Very little agitation needed.

You will have to do some sort of "rubbing". These products just penetrate the adhesive. You still need to use a little bit of elbow grease to lift the adhesive off of the surface.

+1 Q-Tip.

Remember not to stick it in your ear too far, you'll scratch your brain.

Can you get at it with a flat piece of plastic (ie: credit card)? That is what I normally use for those hard to reach areas.

Yeah thats a good idea. Use a thin plastic object like a credit card or plastic spatula and cover it with a rag and then wedge it in there and rub. I've used that before.

That's what I was thinking, something plastic. I think I remember seeing TacoBill using something that looked almost like a large pink plastic skewer with an edge in one of his writeups. Almost like a thin plastic chisel? Thanks for all the advice, gonna try a bit if all of them I guess until I find one that works

BTW: CC is a great idea, considering how much I am spending on the car they should be useless soon anyway.....

Before you do anything I would call the company that makes that stuff and see what they recommend to remove/neutralize it. I know your in a hurry to fix it but how many times have we rush something thinking it would work only to make it worse than it was.

^ Ahhhh, the voice of reason.

Thanks Jed, took your advice and did exactly that. I emailed 3M and asked for a recommendation on removing their promotor. My only concern is they will have the answer, but will say it will remove the promotor AND the paint....

We'll see what they come up with.

They'll probably tell you to use 3M adhesive remover.
