They are extremely reliable from what I have heard on these forums as long as you don't treat them like ****.

Well thats awesome to hear!! Ive had a 90 lx, 92 gt, and last one was a 02 gt. Got burnt out on the old hot rods, and the 02 wasnt the best daily driver either, so ive moved on to a f150, but really itching for a gt500 for the weekends so i was just curious! Kinda been out of the stangs for awhile now!!

The only problems I can even think of mentioning is the time it takes to put fuel and lube in her.

Is it just me or do all these "new guys" asking about reliability smell fishy?

I've never seen so many random new people post and ask how reliable a car is on a message board.

I wonder if they are really prospective buyers, or someone doing some kind of survey on the perceived reliability of new mustangs.

You have a point. I've seen it on other Mustang forums as well.

People are asking these questions because somewhere down the line we have been taught that American cars are poorly made. My best friends first job was at a Toyota dealership. He used to love to bring me down and show me how to spot the difference in quality between american and japanese builds. "You can look down the side of the frame and see if the door lines up with the body.. you can crawl underneath and look for this and that". Signs that show rushed construction and poor craftsmanship. Then there is media exposure and cultural bias making it look like the far East are more diligent and work harder, thus produce better vehicles. I mean Toyota & Honda get their reputation for a reason afterall. Their cars are practically expected to run 250,000 miles before breakdown. Why doesnt anybody say the same for a GM of Ford?

I know these "do mustangs suck?" threads seem silly, but I'm sure it's just shared sentiment from all of the above.

The GT500 is very reliable, early cars 2007's and such had clutch issues but nothing significant on the newer ones.

I certainly didn't mean any offense, I was just pointing out how the posts looked to me.

I have a 2012 GT, and it is a GREAT car. I bet the GT500's are that much better, I'd say go for it!
