Let's build a GT!

Took a test ride in a 5.0 today with my local dealer and I am in looooooove! I have been approved for a $36,000 loan from my CU, but am really looking to spend more around 32-34. There are a lot of options on the 5.0 so I'm going to try and peg down exactly what I want and then have it factory built to my specifications. Feel free to fill in the gaps, make recommendations, or catch flat out problems in my build:

P.S. I have never factory built a car before. Please forgive any ignorance of things the dealer/factory cannot peform, and correct them where need be.

1. 2012 black 5.0
2. Automatic Tranny
3. Leather
4. Power seats
5. Automatic climate control
6. HID headlights
7. Window tint
8. Lower fascia fog lamps
9. Ambient lighting
10. Remote ignition
11. Auto-dimming mirror

The following are aesthetic upgrades I am in need of opinions of:

12. Illuminated door stills???
13. White front-back hood stripes???
14. Side stripes???
15. Sound system???
16. Side scoops???
17. Some type of front grill???
18. 19" Argent wheels (Dealer has indicated willingness to include this without the California package.)

Ok, now a big part of my order consists of the premium package and the california package. However those 2 addons push this car over my budget, so I'm trying to crop as much from those packages as I really want. In fact, it looks like if I just forgo the leather and rims options that I might squeeze this baby down to 34k.

I'm still waiting for my salesman to email me with their current dealer incentives. I am looking to getting $1500 or possibly even $2500 off if I understand them correctly.

Fire away!

Go to the ford website and build and price your Mustang, so that you get familiar with the packages.

Download the latest 2012 Order Guide from Mustang Source. Review this carefully, and you will see what you can and can't put together.

Then, I'd say:

get a manual transmission
pick your rear axle ratio

and, the rest is just fluff, comfort, etc.

Then go to Edmunds.com, or other similar site and price the car, and learn what the dealer invoice is.

Have Fun.

Thanks for the link to the buyers guide. My salesman gave me a similar yet differently formatted sheet. So it looks like what I'm really interested in is the California Special Edition and some HID headlights thrown in. I cant quite tell if the HID's are part of another package of if they can be culled out and added on on separately. I also wouldnt mind an auto-dimmer mirror with camera built in, but again that looks like part of an electronics package with Nav which I dont want.

If you can wait 5 weeks, you'll see the facelifted '13MY at the LA show. Of course, it won't be in dealer lots until March/April..........but this should mean you can get some good deals on the '12MY, so possibly holding out for a little while?

I'm not familiar with Mustang jargon yet. What is the "MY"?

Is this the new Bullit style Mustang? I rather like the facelift, but not if it's going to add 2-3k to MSRP because it's a significant upgrade.

Here's my build. I should be getting $2500 in incentives. I'm going to ignore those and try to talk them down to 36k final. Then subtract $2500 for incentives for a grand total of 33.5k. Realistic? Or asking too much? This is basically a California package with door stills and HID's added. I would like to exclude the satellite radio stuff but I guess thats just part of the shaker 500 system?

edit: should read automatic transmission. Dont know why it came up like that.

It seems as if the only options you have are the GT/CS and the HID&Security Package. I think what BigPimpin is referring to are mods which is half the fun of owning a Mustang such as a CAI and tune or putting on your own mufflers etc. Welcome to the Mustang family and congrats on your new car, I know you will thoroughly enjoy it!!

Oh yeah I'll throw on a borla system and other stuff in the future. In fact my first big upgrade is going to be a Galaxy Tab install in the dash. Another member on here already did this, so hopefully I can get in contact with him. Right now I'm maxed out on my budget though, so I just need to get the car delivered.

I havent purchased yet, I wanted to know what you guys thought of offering 36k for all of that? Am I being reasonable?

I think a great place to start is always lowering springs and if you have the cash I recommend doing it right by upgrading the full suspension. (shocks struts etc.) I know a lot of the guys on here say do gears first but that is a bit above my mechanical level so when I do gears I'm going to have to pay someone to do them. So I don't consider that a DIY thing.
