What makes the Shaker stand out from the rest of the 'fakies' is the hole in the hood and the scoop sitting on top of the engine.

Just got off the phone with CDC and found out a replacement shroud costs $230, ...
I just got off the phone with K&N and found out that the K&N CAI is carb exempt for 05 Stangs. They told me they've already submitted the paperwork for the 06's and are just waiting on approval.

On K&N, are you saying that all 05's can have the CAI and be legal (in CA)? If so, that's wierd. I assumed that the CARB number gets issued to the product (and its applicable years'), not year to year.

I envisioned the shroud raising with the hood not the entire scoop. Only problem would be how it looked once raised. Seems like the shroud as it is now would look funny raising with the hood. It's just too big and bulky but a trimmed down version may not look so bad.
I wish I could photo chop some ideas but my talents are no where near that good.

Here's a pic of Don's. It's sitting on a Kenne Bell, but you get an idea what it'll look like when most of the shroud is trimmed away.

Here's my attempt at a Mosaic Art pic of my car. This was created using a pool of over 1600 pics in my library (of the car). As you can see, it only used a fraction of the pics to create this image, and repeated several (this was needed to create the background).
All in all, I think it turned out pretty cool.

Hey Bill, got a little food for thought for you. I have been contemplating getting a radar detector for my stang. I’ve done some research on the best mounting position for the unit. It seems that if you want to pickup Laser you need to mount the unit very low on the dashboard as Laser is a very tight beam, what they are aiming at is the headlights or license plate. In fact the beam is only 18 inches wide at 500 feet. But if you think about it, there seems to be no good reason to try and pickup Laser as it is hard to pickup and they tend to use it where a reflection would unlikely like over a hill or around a curve.
Placing it low also makes it less likely to be see by a policeman who might not be inclined to cut you a break if he knows that you have a detector.
Now they also tell you that placing it behind an object such as your wipers is not a good idea. With that in mind I wondered how high it would have to be to clear the rear spoiler. With my car on level pavement I set my laser level so that it just cleared the rear spoiler. When I turned it around to face front it was just about 4, maybe 5 inches below the rearview mirror. So it looks like your mounting position is the best it can be to pickup both front and rear radar.

Attachment 19454 I still have to shorten the cord - I left it long so I could drop it lower than the tint if needed.
It's "view" out the back is right by my head and out the rear window (and my rear window is much smaller). But I have yet to worry about a cop radaring behind me. 99.5% of the time you are trying to get any possible warning up ahead of you, and this Escort (same as Bill's) really picks them up good. I get stuff way before I even see the cop because I'm getting reflections from them radaring cars in front of me (Ka).
Just today I was driving in an area that goes from 45 to 35 and they sit way up ahead around a slight curve. I pick them up waaaaaay before it drops to 35.
So -- Ka was beeping 1 or 2 bars and then jumped to full bars... then back to 1 or 2 bars (they are turning the Ka gun on and off pointing it at the cars ahead of me). Then, all of a sudden when I got closer, LASER came on the display (which means they were pointing a different laser gun directly at me). I was already going EXACTLY 35. I had the top down and when I slowly drove by the cop, I watched him standing there next to the laser gun mounted on a tri-pod with a tiny smirk on my face. He followed the car with his eyes probably thinking, that bastard's got a radar detector (cause you can't see it behind the strip of tint).

Anyway... my point is... I picked up LASER with it mounted almost as far up the windshield as possible (which is the best mounting location for Ka).
I have X-band turned off and I'm thinking about turning off K.
As far as Bill's mounting location goes - personally, I think it would be too obstructive. I don't like anything hanging below the rear-view mirror because it blocks that whole forward-and-to-the-right area of vision.

Not bad of a location, but you can't use your sunvisor. And, those suction cups worry me. I always think the detector can come crashing down without notice.
Since pivoting my rear view post upwards, the view out isn't too bad. It's something I've gotten use to already.
No thoughts on my mosaic?

I've seen's Don and person and it doesn't look bad but I don't think I'll be cutting my shroud anytime soon. I know Don did it because he had no choice after buying his KB.

Ray (rayman) hooked me up with this FREE program.
Oh, I don't use visors either, but some may. I'm a Oakley guy myself.
Vision out really isn't that restrictive. Some (like Tom) have issues with anything hanging down the rearview mirrow. In fact to Tom, the mirror itself is a hindrance!
Now if I had Mardi Gras beads, big fuzzy dice, dream catcher, etc. hanging down, that would bug me.
I think the ride I gave you will stick in your mind forever!

The suction cups hold just fine and have never released without warning. I'll wet them a little (yes, with spit) and then you can move the mount around exactly where you want it to be and at the perfect angle. Then when dry, they are there for good... until you pull that tab and they pop right off.
I meant to say that mosaic was cool looking, but forgot after my LASER story.
Nah, the mirror doesn't bother me... it's just stuff hanging down from the mirror.

Since I can't decide on a hood stripe I've decided to do the next best thing which means I'm considering side stripes. Not sure on a color yet but it won't be a bright one.
Colors I'm considering:
Metallic Silver
Dark Charcoal
Dark Red (Something closer to "redfire" not "torchred". Sorry Bill)
Matte Black
Designs

Daryl,Tom how are your rocker panel stripes taking the rigors of daily driving???
Revisiting the shaker topic here's a pic showing what I was describing yesterday.

They are holding up just fine.
As far as color... silver. Match the rims... don't add any other colors to the body... it gets too busy. Like I'm white/black. Bill is red/polished. Daryl is blue/white.
