Tom Petty is one of my favorite singer/song writers ever. I don't think he and the heart breakers get enough credit.
This song makes me tear up often especially this version. My wife bought us tickets to go see them in Chicago last summer and it was incredible. Beautiful beautiful song and live arrangement.

Best grunge era vocalist? Chris Cornell..... probably but for my money I'd take Layne any day.

I'll leave you with this one: The Sword live, a cut from Warp Riders (best concept album of the last decade or two)

I know you guys get tired of hearing this from me, but this is a fantastic song, the writing is impeccable. Hearing this just chokes me up, brings my heart right up into my throat. I identify with so many things in this song, it moves me.

I don't think any country or country rock song ever written hits to the heart of the South or the mid west like this song does. It is fantastic. The lyrics are something that everyone in these parts of the nation can identify with.

That song is aimed squarely at boys like Nathan. And me too.

I have to disagree. Yes, Chris Cornell was the best vocalist of that era, but this was the best song of that era, another Chris (Robinson). It was OMG good.

love this, wish I had a better vid of it. His performances always depress me because when I used to sing in as a front man for a band everyone always said I sounded so much like him (well they said I said I sounded like a combination of Chris and Gregg Allman). I had that whiskey soaked, cigarette smoked, drug addled sound too (for good reason, lol). I could cover any song he sang back in the day. : Now I couldn't cover **** since I've been clean for a long time, lol

If rock and roll had a fantasy league and I could draft any living front man for a band, Chris Cornell would be it.

I was flipping channels earlier and caught him on SNL with Zac Brown Band.

Back in the day those nerds at Ga. Tech used to make it and sell it for $100 a sheet (a sheet of blotter paper had 100 individual perforated squares on it ) but up here each "hit" or square sold for $7 each. So I would go down to ATL and buy a bunch of sheets from the nerds at Ga Tech for a $100 each and bring them back and get $700 from them, lol. Of course I was dumb and stupid, so I would never do that these days.

Not to mention, my kid was a nerd and got a full scholarship to Ga Tech and I hope he wasn't doing that, lol.
