PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The City of Portland thinks something stinks about the public bathrooms being marketed by a Southern Oregon company.
The Sidewalk Restroom sold by Romtec Inc. of Roseburg looks similar to the Portland Loo, the city's distinctive street-side restrooms. Too similar, the city alleges in a lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court.
Portland says Romtec infringed on the city's copyright and is interfering with its efforts to sell the Loo to other cities.
The steel-walled restrooms feature open slats at the top and bottom to let police see how many people are inside, an anti-graffiti coating to deter vandalism and a hand-washing station on the outside to promote shorter use.
"After the success of the Portland Loo, Romtec now seeks to usurp the urban market with its Sidewalk Restroom, which is an obvious knock-off of the Portland Loo," the city says in its lawsuit.
It all started in January, when someone from the City of Cincinnati notified Portland that Romtec was offering its Sidewalk Restrooms "for a cost significantly less than the cost of the Portland Loo," according to the city's lawsuit. The local press in Cincinnati had widely covered that city's discussions with Portland over the Loo.
Portland charges $90,000 for each Loo and hopes to use profits to pay the maintenance costs for the city's six Loos. It has sold three Loos to Ketchikan Gateway Borough, Alaska, along with the cities of Victoria and Nanaimo in British Columbia. Its lawsuit says the city is negotiating to sell Loos to San Diego, Seattle and Esquimalt, B.C.
The city is asking a judge to prohibit Romtec from marketing or selling its Sidewalk Restroom and to order the destruction of the any restrooms or marketing materials the company has on hand. It also seeks profits derived from the sale of Romtec's restrooms and attorneys' fees.
Romtec sells public, outdoor restrooms to clients including the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Bureau of Land Management, according to its website.
A company official did immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press.

BULLS GAP — A theft charge is pending against a Hawkins County woman who allegedly stole $5,000 from her boyfriend and was then hospitalized for injuries suffered attempting to remove the cash from her “hiding place.”
Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the home of Bobby Gulley, 249 North Ridge Road, Bulls Gap, on a complaint that his girlfriend was stealing from him.
Gulley told HCSO Sgt. Michael Allen he’d “set a trap” for Christie Black, 43, also of that address, by placing two envelopes containing $4,000 and $1,000 in $100 bills in an old medicine bag.
The medicine bag was then placed on a foosball table and Gully went to bed.
Gulley said that when he woke up, he noticed Black was still awake, but the medicine bag and cash were missing.
When Gulley confronted Black with the theft, Black reportedly vomited up a baggy containing partially dissolved pills.
“He then asked her where the money was, and she admitted to him she’d wrapped it up and stuck it in her rectum,” Allen stated in his report. “Black admitted (to Allen) to taking the money and medication because Mr. Gulley was going to kick her out and she needed money for a place to live.”
Allen said Black attempted to remove the cash with a toilet brush and tongs but was unsuccessful.
“She was bleeding severely and was transported to the Hawkins County (Memorial Hospital) emergency room,” Allen said. “The wad of money was removed and collected as evidence.”
An arrest warrant has been issued for Black charging her with theft over $1,000, but as of Thursday afternoon the warrant hadn’t been served because she is still hospitalized.
As of Thursday afternoon, she remained listed in fair condition at Holston Valley Medical Center.

I've been reading comments on the story above and one of them asked how the riffraff in Hawkins county had $5K in cash laying around the house in the first place.

Nothing quite like college educated government employees without a lick of common sense. 
How could you NOT expect a massive mosquito problem after creating numerous pools of semi-stagnant water over cow pasture??
There's where our tax dollars are going for all these 'environmental impact studies'... to keep a bunch of morons employed with fat pensions that can't think their way out of a paper bag.

"The scientific data showing the unprecedented number of mosquitoes and the County's identification of this as a legitimate health threat provided the Service with the ability to approve funding for the treatment of mosquitoes on refuge lands," Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Megan Nagel said Friday in a statement.
The Fish and Wildlife Service had come under harsh criticism for spending $10 million on the Ni-les'tun Tidal Marsh Restoration to improve salmon and shorebird habitat, but not being able to come up with several thousand dollars for controlling the mosquitoes.
The agency acknowledged it had not foreseen mosquitoes would be problem when it considered the environmental effects of restoring tidal surges to 400 acres along the Coquille River north of Bandon that have served as a cow pasture for the past century. A 76-page environmental assessment of the project does not mention mosquitoes at all.
Coos County Commissioner John Sweet said the spraying can't start until mid-September, when tidal conditions will be favorable, and will involve an area larger than the refuge.
The cost likely will be less than $30,000, though no contracts have been let. The area to be sprayed will be several times larger than the marsh, and funding will come from other private sources. The Fish and Wildlife Service will pay for treating the marsh with pesticides to kill both larvae and adult mosquitoes.
Though downtown Bandon and the beach have been spared, residents near the marsh complained they couldn't leave their homes without being swarmed. Campers at Bullards Beach State Park complained of bites. Bandon Dunes Golf Resorts sprayed to control the insects, and gave out repellant to golfers.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter says first lady Lori Otter dislocated her shoulder while calf roping at a rodeo in Oregon and faces surgery.
Otter spokesman Jon Hanian says the mishap occurred in mid-August on the couple's anniversary. Hanian says the first lady had just roped a calf when her shoulder became dislocated.
The Spokesman-Review reports (http://bit.ly/19YlBgK ) that Otter revealed the injury last week during the opening of his annual Address to the Business Community.
Otter told the crowd of 600 that after the injury they went to a hospital where the doctor put his foot on the first lady's armpit and jerked on the arm to put her shoulder back in place.
The governor says he couldn't get away with doing that.

A Boston-area man who plotted to kidnap children, rape and eat them, was sentenced Tuesday to more than 26 years in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release, according to court documents from the United States district attorney's office.
Geoffrey Portway, 40, was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to five children whose images were found in online chats by Portway, according to court documents. Portway, a citizen of the United Kingdom and most recently of Worchester, Massachusetts, also faces deportation following his release from prison, according to court documents.
According to defense attorney Richard Sweeney, Portway's sentencing is in accordance with a plea agreement he signed in May, during which he pleaded guilty to distribution and possession of child pornography and solicitation to commit a crime of violence.
Sweeney declined additional comment Tuesday on his client's sentence of 320 months, or 26 years and eight months, in prison.
Feds: Boston man plotted to eat children
Portway went by the moniker "Fat Longpig" during his online chats, according to court documents.
It was these chats -- which included discussions about abducting, raping, murdering and eating children, according to court documents -- that put Portway on the radar screen of police.
His home in Worcester was searched last year and authorities found tens of thousands of computer images and videos of child pornography, 4,500 exchanges of child pornography between Portway and the people he chatted with online. The images included children purportedly being cooked and prepared to be eaten, court documents said.
Authorities also found a locked basement, court documents show. Photos taken the day of Portway's arrest show a narrow wooden staircase leading downstairs to a soundproof room in which he planned to imprison children. The room was furnished with a metal cage with a circular hole for feeding, a rusted and worn steel-topped table, as well as multiple kinds of metal bondage equipment. A child-sized coffin made of plywood was found on the floor nearby.
Also found in the house were handcuffs, rope intended for bondage, mouth gags, and castration tools. A large box of frozen raw chicken, near a handful of disposable scalpels, was photographed by investigators near two industrial-sized freezers.
In the kitchen, a jug of Clorox bleach was seen by the doorway, while a red child-sized 'onesie' lay on the countertop, amid snacks and disposable syringes. A butcher kit containing plastic gloves, an apron, cutting board, bone saw, cleaver, shears, and multiple knives was photographed in the sink.
Portway's collection of DVDs and books appear to echo his intentions to ensnare, rape, and cannibalize children. Among his DVD collection were titles such as "Human Beast," "Hansel and Gretel," "The Real Cannibal Holocaust," "The Genesis Children," "Cannibal the Musical," and "Cannibal Ferox," a film with the tagline "Make them die slowly." Portman's DVD copy of the film "Albert Fish: In Sin He Found Salvation" had a note written on it: "Will, let's do lunch."
Online chats, seized by police, showed Portway calling his basement a "dungeon" where he intended to "keep kidnapped children while he sexually abused them and as a place to eventually murder and cannibalize the children," authorities said.
Two other men who chatted with Portway have already been convicted. One was a puppeteer who, authorities said, plotted with Portway to kidnap children the puppeteer knew from his work at a Florida church.
Last week, federal prosecutors called Portway's collection "chilling" and wrote in a sentencing recommendation that he should be imprisoned for at least 27 years, to protect the public.
"Portway has pled guilty to some of the most vile and heinous crimes known to our society," federal prosecutors wrote in court documents.
Prosecutors could not be immediately reached for comment on Portway's sentencing Tuesday.

Craving to murder helpless innocent children because of one idiotic belief of getting sexual stamina/power or becoming very beautiful through the eating and drinking of soups made from them is becoming an acceptable norm in China, an atrocity that is rapidly and dangerously increasing. Craving to murder helpless innocent children because of one idiotic belief of getting sexual stamina/power or becoming very beautiful through the eating and drinking of soups made from them is becoming an acceptable norm in China, an atrocity that is rapidly and dangerously increasing. This barbaric and uncivilized act has to be condemned by all whether one is Chinese or not.
Speculations of what could push people into this form of cannibalism against these innocent children and unborn babies as gathered by Global Reporters Vienna could be that the Chinese law forces people into abortion just to see that the one child policy of the government is strictly adhered to.
Below are quotes from The Next Magazine, a weekly publication in Hong Kong, on atrocities that go on against born and unborn babies in China.
“Some Chinese people are known to be eating babies, and the news, which has been circulating through the Internet and via email, is shocking the world.
“An email received by The Seoul Times confirmed that news with several vivid and appalling pictures of human embryos and fetuses being made into a soup for human consumption.
“… A town in the southern province of Canton (Guangdong) is now in focus. Chinese folks there are enjoying baby herbal soup to increase overall health and stamina and power of sexual performance in particular.
“This time, a couple who already has two daughters decided to abort the child after receiving confirmation that it was another girl. The baby was already five months old.
“Those babies who are close to born and die naturally cost 2000 in China currency. Those aborted ones cost a few hundreds in China currency.
“Those couples who did not want to sell dead babies, placentas can be accepted also for couple of hundreds.
“These heinous crimes rise from the fact that the majority of Chinese prefer to have male babies and the poor families end up selling their female babies.
“Dead babies can be purchased in Taiwan for 70 US dollars for being used as grilled delicacies,” reported the magazine.
The story is also not different in Hong Kong. According to the magazine, infant corpses and fetuses are in high demand for “health and beauty.”
“Not only is the placenta considered a beauty remedy, but also aborted fetuses are much sought after delicacies. In Guangdong, gourmet body parts are in high demand and can be purchased through hospitals,” the The Next Magazine reported.
Even though the Chinese law prohibits the eating of human fetuses, babies or the practice of cannibalism, but these atrocities are practiced and very visible and accepted by many indigenes. The report says there are people still on waiting lists to buy the human parts, but “those with the right connection get the ‘highest quality’” meaning more mature fetuses. “A male fetus is considered the ‘prime’ human part.”

Moose hunter accidentally shoots man sitting on toilet

A moose hunter in Norway accidentally shot a man who was using the toilet.
According to News.Sky.com, the rifleman was aiming for a moose, but his bullet pierced a wooden wall of a vacation home behind the animal and struck the man.
The man, in his 70s, was rushed to the hospital by helicopter and his injury was not thought to be life-threatening.
The hunter was detained for questioning, News.Sky.com reported.
The moose escaped unharmed.
