I remember that I woke up last night with something great to post on this thread, but this morning I could not remember what it was.

Ironic?

Remember when television went off the air at night? They'd play some video with the national anthem or some other patriotic one minute or so clip and then the channel would go off until morning. Some would just go to static, some would have some type of test pattern on the screen with a loud constant beeeeeeep tone (presumably to wake you up if you had fallen asleep so you'd turn the tv off and go to bed, at least that's what I figured it was for).

I remember expressions like, "squeezing the nickel until the indian was riding the bufffalo.""

I remember when there were 2 digit postal zones that went between the city name and the state name.

I remember working as a bag boy in the local grocery store for 65 cents an hour plus tips.

I remember those coolers you hung on the window of your car. The window would be open just a little and the cooler would be filled with ice. Wind would blow into an opening in the front of the cooler and out an opening in the side into the car. Cool! But not too very.

I was wrong. They were filled with water; not ice. They were evaporative coolers. Just Google old car cooler for photos and a Wikipedia article.

Swamp cooler.

(it works! After the roof is in the shade it takes the house down from 78 to 72 after an hour.)

Doesn't bother me, I'm confident in my preferences and am usually the first to make fun of myself.

Probably helps that I have no shame.

Does it get crazy hot there? I wouldn't think quite as much as some other areas? I've only been there once and it was in August and I don't recall extreme heat though?

Well I'm on the east side of the Cascades at 4200'. So a) it's not the wet part of Oregon and b) the sun is more intense than lower elevations - yet it cools down every night and has low humidity.

So in August you can see low to mid 90's (100 is rare) and that would take the house up into 80's. But by cooling the house down in the morning with the windows open, then closing them before the heat, the house doesn't reach 80. But with the sun on the roof the attic is cookin. Runnin the sprinkler takes the heat out. Beats buying and paying for AC.

I remember being in grade school and reading stories in class that used the word gay. And it meant happy. Not the other thing.

I remember these reading machines in elementary school that would only show one line of a story at a time. It would be projected to the front of the classroom on a screen. You would read the entire story that way one line at a time. After the story was over you would be tested! The machine would click away on the lines of the story quicker and quicker. Talk about pressure, frustration and the lack of wanting to read?!? I hated that **** machine and to this day I am not a big reader!
