I will be getting my 06 GT in mid october and have been debating if I should use Regular 87 or Super 93 Octane. I have heard alot of different things about which gas to use. I live in Ny and reg right now is about $3.29/Gal and Super is $3.69/gal. All i want to do is treat the car the best I can and at the same time have it perform as well as it can. Will super make that much a difference that it will be worth paying for? :scratch: Thanks Shaun

 

Unless you get your car re-tuned to take premium it will not help the performance at all. In some cases putting a higher octane fuel into a car that wasn't made for it is harmful to the car, so just run regular.

 

On the same note do not put regular fuel in a car that needs premium. My month-in-law put regular gas in her 350z and clunk clunk boom . . . you get the picture.

 

Definitely run regular 87 octane unless you have the car retuned.

Octane really has nothing to do directly with horsepower; it has to do with engine timing. High octane resists ignition, allowing a retune of the engine for greater horsepower.

So no retune, no advantage to higher octane fuel.

 

Yeah, a co-worker did the same thing to his BMW. Of course, he didn't exactly have a choice since we were under mandatory evacuation for Hurricane Rita and none of the stations had anything but regular (and some didn't even had that).

 

The new Mustang was designed to run on 87 octane. So as said, until you get it retuned (the computer flashed) to run on 93 octane, you'll just be wasting money.

 

Run regular if you don't get it tuned. BUT... if you do get a tuner, definitely get a 93 octane tune. I have driven both an 87 tune with 87 gas and a 93 octane tune with 93 octane... and the difference is HUGE. Well worth the few bucks a week you'll pay in extra gas.
