I need a job
Yeah. He was nice. He said I should have the shop as something on the side because I probably won't pay the bills off the shop alone. Gotta say, that's kind of upsetting. I never saw myself doing anything other than busting my @$$ working hard on cars all day every day.
I'm a little late to the convo and you seem to have already found some way to get yourself banned, but I'll respond anyway...
You should find any job you can get. Apply for anything and everything, and just hope you get something. You're not looking into jobs that are high up enough to start calling them up and asking if they looked at your application. We can't stand it when people do that...If we want you, then we'll give you a call. You're only worth minimum wage. I work at a warehouse similar to Costco, and to be honest...I wouldn't even hire you as a cashier. *Maybe* a cart attendant. But you're looking at the wrong place...we want experience. We pay more, and we expect more from you. Most people don't make it past their 90 day probation period. Everyone wants more money, but no one wants to earn it...

I've tried Texas. Another problem is that companies don't want to take a chance on someone out of state. Hell, I'll pay for the move myself if you'll hire me, but you never get a chance.
Sounds like a messed up situation Mahn. You should check into the petrochemical companies down here. Shell, Exxon, Dow, Basf etc. Those guys own everything down here and have tons of bean counters. Maybe a different type direction you had for career plans but I'm sure the jobs are good and pretty stable.
Which is why I came here. Not to ask if it's possible for me to get a decently paying job, but to find out what kinds of jobs pay the most for somebody like me so that I may apply. It doesn't hurt to try.
I could easily get hired at Taco Bell or something and make close to nothing, but for now I want to burn through all options.
What about car places? I know my way around cars. After all my dream is to have my own custom/performance shop and I need more experience with that. I'm going to UTI for their outos course but this campus doesn't have collision/repair so perhaps I could learn by working at a shop. Fat chance. I wouldn't let a 17-year old touch expensive, modded sports cars.
Let you know a little something about UTI. Don't waste your money. Collision repair I would say school is worth it but not service repair. You'll pay those guys for two years to maybe set you up with a job changing oil and brakes. If you want to get in the field, start off at the bottom with a dealership or big chain store such as Firestone or Goodyear shop. If you're motivated, you will be far ahead of the game in two years than fresh out of UTI. We used to abuse those kids fresh out of UTI. You'll be making under $30k with $40k worth of loans to pay back. Just some advise you should take.
I hope this wasn't posted already because I didn't read through every page, but don't u have to be 18 to operate the tire machinery? Maybe that's why they didn't respond at all to his app. Heck where I work you have to be 18 to use the trash compactor. And that's just pressing a button!
