Dell XPS 15 Dell XPS 15

vs.

MacBook Pro MacBook Pro

Need something new and need opinions. Want something for general internet browsing, writing papers, and editing pictures/videos. I've loved my 3.5yo Dell Studio 15 up until these past few months when it just doesn't want to do anything anymore. I hate apple but with all the frustration I've been having lately, I'm willing to try something new. Go!

(not trying to turn this into PC vs. Mac so don't go there).

Anything with an old HDD is not worth it. Why do you hate apple?

Haven't tried editing any pics with the MacBook yet but everything else works fantastic. Just gotta get used to the operating system. It is different but really user friendly once you learn how to navigate through it.

Many reasons. Mainly the smug attitude that comes free with every purchase.

I'd get the Apple because of the SSD, which should come in handy when making/editing videos.

I'm currently on my sister's mac and I feel like an elderly person trying to send their first email.

Dude it's a bad *** machine once you learn it. And no bugs and viruses. That's what sold us.

If you go with Mac, check out powermax.com. They do used and refurb, you can save some money. I have purchased 2 macs from them, no problems with either.

EDIT: I just noticed that the Mac "Ships in frustration free packaging"! What more could you ask for?

Just checked it out. Really not a HUGE difference. $929 for a used vs. $1115 for a new one from amazon. Feel better going new.

I do like the track pad on the mac although it does take some getting used to. What I don't like is how hard it is to maximize a window. I can't stand when it's not maximized. And the menu buttons at the top is just plain odd. And there's no start button. It's so confusing.

The Mac track pad is great. I cannot use the track pad on my work pc laptop, have to plug in a mouse. With my Mac I dont need a mouse.
The Apple logo top left is the equivalent to the start button (kind of)
You are young, you'd adapt quickly to the Mac OS

In the mean time though I feel like I'm trying to jog on the treadmill with only one leg.

That actually cheered me up. The visual of you trying to run with one leg gave me a chuckle.

Another thing I don't like is the wall charger/plug. There's no plugging in to tight spaces with that honker.

The new Macs come with an extension cord that goes between the charger and the outlet that makes it like the Dell powerpak. Does your sister's have that?

That shouldn't matter. You're never going to plug anything into a tight space.

Saw that one coming.

Really love iMovie. So much more efficient than windows live movie maker (which was nothing but a PIA). TMS seems to load slower though.

What Mac book does you sister have?

Size, speed, OS?
