Meh. Articles predicting the demise of "archaic" performance cars are as archaic as the cars themselves allegedly are.

In fairness, that Z was a F/R gas guzzler just like the mustang...within 1mpg, IIRC. Your example doesn't really contradict the article...

+1!!
between CNN trying to scare the crap out of us and FOX screaming at us who we should vote for and who we should hate....and MSNBC being generally worthless...the media landscape is pretty **** bleak.

The article is information that nobody asked for. They will stop making these cars when people stop wanting/ buying them. No surprise there.

I've averaged 27mpg on a 3 hr trip out of my V8 Bullitt - when I want to - with cruise on 65. (actual calculation).

My 4 banger winter car has never hit 25. (winter conditions.)

Take that green freaks! I've got your algore (phony nobel) civil rights hangin' right here.

So tell me algore, is the environment going to get a statue on the Mall too?

OK. Enough with the childish Rush Limbaugh-isms.

Obvioulsy some people overstate envrionmental problems...but more are way too self centered and greedy to give two ****s about it...so there is a happy medium out there.

Fortunately, we live in a time where our muscle cars are not major environmental offenders. No, they're not the most responsible choice but on the scale of things, a couple of MPG here or there isn't making that much difference, especially when the Mustang isn't your primary car.

I think that in addition to the internet, algore also invented mathematics. When solving math problems, dont we all use algore-ithms?

(was that off-topic?)

You know what kills me? The people who are griping about MPGs and alternative fuels never say word one about NASCAR, F1, etc. If you're not into racing, that would appear as a huge waste of fuel. But have you heard anyone saying "We need to get those race cars converted to all-electric!"?

I know, it's a small percentage of overall fuel consumption, and those teams and sponsors have a lot of money invested in it. I'm just saying they should leave those of us driving our V8s daily at a moderate pace alone.

Agreed. Actually frontal area is more of a determining factor for mileage than engine displacement, presuming the engine is reasonably efficient. The myriad of single occupant Expeditions, Navigators, etc. are far more of an issue then the few who choose to drive domestic performance cars with V-8s.

Too true. My DD is a Honda Element. 2.4 liter, 5 spd MT, and the aerodynamics of a toaster. At 70 mph it gets 24mpg; same as my Boss302 with ~3X the HP.

Yep same here. My winter car is a Cruiser 2.4L, 3000# pig @ 24. Works great in the snow and ice though while the Bullitt is garaged for the winter.

Whoever wrote that "article" is clearly out of touch with motorists and enthusiasts everywhere.

I'm wondering if they even own a car.
