It's the flat top of the 'round' cartoon tail lights IMO. It doesn't harken back to previous Camaro's and certainly not previous Corvette's.

I think they erred there by putting that styling on the Corvette after it has become synonymous with the new "Transformer" Camaro.

The C7's tail lights look like an evolution of the camaro's. In other words if those lights were on the 2016 Camaro no would bat an eye

As someone observed in a Corvette forum I was reading, there were "squircles" for the taillights on some years of the C4.

Oh yeah, forgot about that, the squircles appeared on the C4 ZR1 IIRC and were implemented in the regular Corvette the following year.

It's not based off the Camaro, but off this 1997 C5 Corvette design study instead.

So you can say the Camaro's tail lights were based off this instead.

yeah that's the weak point in the design. I give them credit for trying though. I personally was going to find something I didn't like no matter what. It is after all, a chevy

The GM stylist was explaining the design. Autoweek came up with the term "defend".

Of course...the designers mentioned the reason for styling choices for the tail lights when the car was introduced. And since they've heard the feedback, they've reiterated the same information. It's interesting to see how many Corvette owners on one of the forums I visit absolutely love it as much as other hate it. So the designers achieved their goal of moving the styling. When I first saw it, I didn't make any connection to the current Camaro. I am aware of the rear light design of that car and the new Malibu, and I didn't immediately think "they copied it".

What I am still getting used to is the vents that some have termed the "mascara". Overall, I still really like the car, so much that I am seriously considering a purchase.

I hope the 2015 Mustang is AMAZING!
