Jim Mero was the driver, the same guy who set a ZR1 record at the 'ring.

The good thing is that all these pre production cars get scrapped anyway.

It was reported by a GM spokesperson that he was not the driver actually.

I wouldn't want to be identified as "the guy that drove a new Corvette up a wall" either...

Perhaps the unnamed individual behind the wheel was in their target demographic = midlife crisis "because sportscar" driver.

Because they aren't released to the public, it was likely a GM employee. According to what was said about the cause, it was mentioned a wheel came off part of the pavement, caught, and then caused the crash.

Where do you see the resemblance? I am curious because while the lights are "in the family" perhaps for Chevy, the shapes are different, as well as the depth and light patterns.

The rest of the rear looks different to me.

At the angle in the ditch you don't really see the exhaust or the lower diaper. So its the tail lights to me that jump out from that quarter/side angle.

Ah, the famous diaper

The diapers look different to me as well. In the photo above, the taillights have a "familial" resemblance to me, but some of the styling details look a bit different, especially on the Corvette with what I've seen some people call the "mascara" (heat extractor vents) next to the lights.
