A C6 that stands out
A C6 that stands out
One of my big beefs with the C6 range is that there's too little to tell them apart. While they range in price from $46K to $117,000, the high end all just look like the base car with some stuff tacked on. Sure, there's more than meets the eye. But I wonder why they never made an effort the super 'Vettes look super, and not like tack-on-extra specials (plexiglass hods are page 53 of JC Witney, right?).

So, its nice to see someone can make a C6 stand out a bit. Not my cup of tea, but it sure stands out:

that vette is fugly
I get what you're saying, but to GM, they've designed the perfect body, and they dont want to mess with it. Design-wise, the car has looked similar since the mid-70's, same basic curves, arches, etc, just tuned to go with the time

Sounds cool, Doug. look forward to seeing it whenever you can show it off.
Yeah, I've heard the "its perfect as-is" argument elsewhere. The problem is that in 20XX they'll have the C7 and, unless its a mechanicals-only update, it will look different. If Porsche can distinguish the 911 Range, and Ford can distinguish the Mustang range, why not the Corvette?

Sounds Awesome doug! I'm so happy for you getting your work out there and clients building your stuff!! Will this be one off or possible for the company making to mass produce?
That kit is distinctive, if that's one's sole objective (look at me, looooooook at ME!), but boy, that really does look like a typical cheesy aftermarket tack on job. If the same level/type of styling adornments, err, "enhancements" were applied to an Accord or 350Z, it would be soundly and deservedly ridiculed as "Rice."
As others have said, the C6 looks great as is and Chevy, thankfully, has kept a more subtle, tasteful stylistic approach, focusing more on the engineering meat than the wrapper. Both the Z06 and ZR1 do have significant but restrained and tasteful stylistic changes which, to my eye at least, are pretty spot on being primarily functional and purposeful rather than bright fluffy feathers for peacocks.
Of course, anyone is free to make a rolling clown show of their C6 to shout their presence to all those within eyeshot. Their is a difference between great design and a lot of design, but that distinction seems to get lost on a lot of people, as that "distinctive" Werkes parade float is a dictionary entry for.

Once again, my point wasn't that this was a good design, its that it's clearly a Corvette while also clearly not JUST a Corvette. If some idiot can do that, why can't GM make a beautiful Z06 or ZR1 that also clearly stands out, that looks like its worth that extra Hundred K. Not just when you're close enough to see the plastic window in the hood or read the badges, but when you see it go roaring by at an intersection. A cool car is one you see and instantly identify it, one where you have to ask yourself "Was that X or Y?" is much less so.
As the TG crew says: the second you have to explain your car it's uncool. If you pull up to a gas pump and the guy inside the Quick-E-Mart correctly goes "Hey, that's X!" you're in good shape. But if they say "Hey, nice "Vette" and you reply "It's not just a 'Vette, its a ZR1 with ........." you're about as cool as the nearest Camry.
