Actually burned, or just airbag rash? There's nothing in the mechanism that creates heat.

I've heard many people claim that there was smoke from a deployment, but that's simply dust from the talc-like powder that prevents the airbag from sticking to itself when it inflates.

I have never been hit with an airbag so I am just guessing here...

If the airbag material is at all coarse in texture it could possibly cause a rash like a carpet burn as it moves accross your skin.

Perhaps the powder could do the same if it is moving fast enough?

I guess it is also possible for someone to be allergic to the powder?

I have and it's more of a rug burn then an actual heat burn. It will go away in acouple days.

Unhappy

Thank you all. I was just confused because when all the airbags deployed I couldn't move and it felt as if they were just siting there burning my skin. Lost part of one of my tattoos

That chemical burn is real. I had a bag deploy on me in an accident many moons ago and it burned a large patch in the felt (or whatever it is; feels like felt) of my pullover shirt/jacket thing.

I have a nephew who was in a wreck with the airbag going off. He started coughing up green crap , his Doctor said it was caused by the stuff from the airbag going off . He's alright now
