Thumbs up

Hi,

We are planning to order a V6 Mustang Convertible for May 05 delivery - we are currently leasing until late April and don’t want to overlap. Our local dealer is pushing us to order (preorder?) now. I’d rather wait a bit until pricing settles down but I don’t want to wait until it is too late for Spring delivery. When would you recommend actually placing an order? FYI, we are in the Wash DC - Baltimore, Maryland area.

BTW, this is a great site.

Thanks

Hopefully by the time you order they will have some of the delivery issues ironed out, and you can expect a delivery 6-8 weeks from order date.

I've heard from a *very* reliable dealer source that despite what's been posted about spring intros, the convertible developement is way behind and that they won't be coming in until late summer/early fall.

If you find the right dealer, pricing has already settled or never was unsettled. Just shop around, look through the thread in the sticky about where people are buying their cars and what prices they are getting. I got $500 over invoice without haggling or having any type of plan or AAA. The good dealers are out there, just have to find them.

Do others agree with Bob99bs that convertible delivery might b delayed until late summer or fall? I wouldn't lessen our interest, but I'd be less likely to place an early order.

Thanks for all of the replies.

I would order it now if you can get it at a lock price. I am from the Baltimore/DC area as well and just ordered my GT a couple of days ago for $500 over invoice. Most of the other dealers I went to around here wanted $1000- $2000 over MSRP! So if you can find a good place at a good price, get on the waiting list and place that order!

One option is:If you have a red carpet lease on a current Ford, you can extend your lease two months, and if you have a car on order you can extend your lease beyond the two month extension they just need the DORA. I know because that is what I am currently doing. Maybe this helps Melissa

Drizztbob -

Would you mind telling me the dealer/salesman you used? You can privately reach me at iwin611@excite.com.

Good idea, but we're not leasing a Ford.

Thx

You may want to double check with your lease company, most have the extension option...

We've just been told by a reputable dealer that Ford will not accept firm orders for Mustang convertibles until January 2005 at the earliest. Apparantly production plans have slipped by at least a month. This matches the info I've seen on this and the Stangnet site.

The other issue you have to keep in mind is allocation issues. We've already got one sold and I believe we will be selling our second this week. You better off having it come in a few weeks early than getting it 3 months too late.

I think some dealers will tell you you have to order now for a mustang in the spring just to get you to order one now. I want mine in april so the salesman told me Jan would be a good time. That would be 3 months which should be plenty of time. Besides If I didn't get it until may that would be fine since It's doesn't start getting nice until then anyway.
