Please diagram position release handles for convertible when top is being lowered. Answer posted from Ford is not very clear. Do you flatten handles? Leave in unlocked position, with handles jutting out?

Help! Dont want to ruin top. My Stang is 2009 convertible.

I have been leaving mine in the unlocked - extended position for a couple of years. No signs of damage or wear
