I got the factory alarm option. Threw it in as an afterthought but am glad I did.

Upgraded? Is there twooptions? I thought you had the option of no alarm or an active alarm. But yes, I got the alarm.

Its comes standard with the passive system.

I went with the active alarm. I think it helps my insurance rates, didn't ask for a quote without the alarm to be sure.

Whats the passive? Is that the one that just "honks" and is not really an anti-theft system?

Your key sends a signal to allow you to start the engine, if you went to a hardware store and just made a normal copy of your key, it would not start the car.

How easy would it be for a "thief" to get a replacement igintion or a key to match the ignition? Does the Dealer require anything to show proof of who the owner of the car is?

Maybe a silly question, but curiuos...

I have no idea, I am sure they would cross reference the VIN with a photo ID and ensure the registered owner's name matched the photo ID

No thanks, can get a much better alarm for the price of the one they wanted to put in.

So, for now, I have passive. Very soon will have an aftermarket one.

Maybe....maybe not. Actually, it's a pretty good alarm (active anti-theft) that comes from the factory. Can't remember the exact price though ($225 rings a bell, but not sure). B) I like all the factory bells and whistles.....if they work well that is.

GiddyUp, I have no doubt its a good alarm... I really think its personal preference. Hubby and I discussed it at the time of the order, and decided to go aftermarket.

I gave my key to an employee and he took it to the dealership and brought me back a duplicate. I programmed it to start the car, but it would have easily opened the car door.
