Ugh, people's perception of the Mustang's rep
haha...a ford only lasting 50K miles? um hi 1950 called...lol thats the biggest crock ive ever heard. only serious lack of maint. could reduce a car wearing out like that, but even still youd get more than 50k miles out if it
man, where do I start ? :P
first off, if you are in the US there's probably a 50% chance the person attempting to poo on your Mustang is driving an SUV, or worse, a minivan. Maybe even a truck (no offense to Texans)... so number one you aren't driving some lagwagon
Then, if you look at the number of fellow Americans who buy Camrys, a car which must be in the running for dorkmobile of the year, you know most of them couldn't actually recognize good design if they could spot it passing them in the midst of their cell phone conversation...
Then, except for poor Dan at Forbes Magazine, reviewers overwhelmingly recognize the new Mustang for one of the top ten fun/enjoyable/worthwile cars on the market, (of which the Prius is just *not* BTW :P)
There are only a few vehicles that compare to the Mustang , and most of them are worthy machines as well, putting the Mustang in very special company. And it has heritage, and soul, something the Japanese machines lack big time. Most of them have faces like Joan Rivers.. lol
And lastly, have you ever glimpsed the repair bill on a BMW, Merc or Lexus at 50k miles? You don't want to be there that's for sure!

I currently drive a Hyundai Elantra GT (17 DAYS LEFT 'til stang). You wouldn't believe how much grief I get over this car.
"What kind of car is that?" "Looks cool"
"Hyundai? Huh. They suck!"
I mean, if you can't tell what a car is by looking at it 20 ft away then you got no voice, and you're uninformed about cars today. How igNANT is that?
Yes, its a hyundai. At the time I bought it, I had no dough and all my friends were buying Golfs and Mitsus. I got waaaay more car for the money than they did. More power and features than anything in the price range, and about a billion times more refined than a Neon or Cav, but priced the same. Almost Toyota finesse. And Hyundai isn't near the top of JD Power for nothing. These cars have excellent built quality. Not to mention the style its great for the model year.
I'm not saying its the most awesoem car ever -it ain't. But you get what you paid for with this car. That was my decision, so I don't appreciate people trying to tell me I bought a piece of shoot.
I don't sweat others about their cars generaly unless they rile me. There's this one dude at work who thinks he's awesome driving his Lancer w/ OZ wheels. Lets, be honest: without AWD that car sux and its ugly. Still he paid $21 grand (CDN) for it!!! 1.8L 110 hp. What the heck is that? He sneers every time he sees my fastback elantra. Maybe its not a sneer but he's smarting form getting screwed on such an overpriced ride. His next car is a BMW, mine a stang. Obviously nothing will change...

I've never had a negative comment so far.
Even from the ole schoolers who still have the old MACH's.
I've had comments like...Wish I could trade my wife in on one.
And my favorite.....Should of waited on my new Goat
.
The weird thing is they think I paid big bucks for it.
When I tell them what the GTs & V6's go for they just go .........huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu?....reeeeeeeealy?
oooooooh ya

Not everyone gets it. Their loss, not even worth your time defending. Don't sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff.

You don't mind if I steal that one ,do ya??
My favorite incident involved a guy in a gray mid-level Lexus coupe that was eyeing my Torch convertible like a dog does a T-bone steak, as we were both fueling up on opposite sides of a pump island. As he was sliding into his drivers seat, he started to say something to his g/f or wife, and she pipes up (loud) "I don't want to hear it, you're the one that HAD to have this boring piece of $%^$"
It doesn't matter what you have, somebody else is going to have something better! (At least in their opinion.)
After my 69 died I had no love for cars. I spent my money on motorcycles. After my boys were born I didn't want to "tear up their lunch ticket" so I gave up bikes & had a couple of Jeeps.
The day after I saw an 05 Gt I was at the dealers lot.
I've seen 50 year old men walk clear across a parking lot & drool & I've seen 20 year olds that "just don't get it!" I don't care either way, I like it! I bought the longest warrenty I could get but, I bet I never need it.

I have a neighbor that is pretty cocky and arrogant because he makes money. He says comments like."no offense but i could never be in a job where I made that kind of money".(I'm a P.E. teacher). Also" Do'nt get a ford, Why don't you get a mercedes or something,?the intro models are real cheap"....or " The mustang doesn't have a Nav system"??(LIKE he is in total shock)..anyways I have to be cordial because our kids play together and my wife is good friends with his..But sometimes you wanna knock people out who are like this

Boltzman, that kinda stuff would drive me nuts...not because I'm jealous, but just because he "doesn't get it".

Never, never, never apologize for being a teacher. IMO it's one of the most important professions around.
Like evrybody else has said, don't worry about what other people think. Just enjoy your ride, whatever it is.
I come from a family that pretty much only buys ford/lincoln/mercury cars and I feel pretty much the same way. My first car was a 1989 ford mustang lx. I bought it in 1989 and I sold it in 2005 because it was starting to have some problems at around 150,000 miles. This was a 16 year old car! Tell me that these cars aren't reliable! It began to not be reliable within the last couple of years. Hey, if the '06 that we are getting soon lasts this long, I will be a happy camper! I fell in love with Mustangs back in 1989 when I first got mine and I continue to love all mustangs. I of course want to be envied around town when people see me in it, but I am mostly into the mustangs because *I* love the way they look. If someone doesn't like them or they think they are a substandard car, *they* are an idiot. Not me.

I agree totally with this. I chose to be a librarian for the same reasons... I WANT to be a librarian. I knew that it was a profession that wouldn't make a ton of money, but was an important job to ME and to those I help. Good teachers are a rare thing, so don't ever apologize for being a teacher. I can't believe someone would even SAY that a teacher wasn't an important job! -Marci

Peolple aren't going to slam people or things that are truly on the bottom rung. The fact that people slam this car is a compliment. Simple mindedness degrades people and or things to lift themselves up.
If people truly don't like the car they will just say so. "That car just isn't me" or whatever. Thats fine. The same way we don't like other cars for whatever reason. We just say so.
I have found that most of the compliments I get are from boys ages 8-15. I do get a lot from my daughters friends that are 22-25.
My wife didn't really like the car until I got it. She said it has definately grown on her. She still doesn't like to go fast. Thats kinda funny too, becasuse back 26 years ago in high school she didn't like going fast then either.
I like it and I'm the only one that matters. LOL
